Librado Andrade & Otis Grant
Might Face Off
# 1 & Mandatory Position In The
WBC
Super Middleweight Division Is The Prize
By William Trillo
As we have already reported, Librado Andrade and Otis Grant
might face off for the number one and mandatory position in
the WBC Super Middleweight Division to take on Champion
Marcus Beyer. The two were set to square off once before but
Grant had to pull out because of an abdominal tear that
needed to be surgically repaired.
The fight is set to take place somewhere between the months
of March and April, with Gym Promotions who were represented
by Yvon Michel winning the purse bid at a amount of
$161,500, a bid that topped another bid from Andrade's
promotion company Golden Boy.
Also, as reported by Pound4Pound.com, the type of surgery
Grant had is a slow healer and often requires further
surgery to correct problems that occur due to the initial
surgery.
Knowing that, Pound4Pound.com has already learned that if
Grant isn't ready by March, the wheels are already in motion
to set up a Title match between Beyer and Andrade with Grant
being guaranteed the winner if and when he should heal.
On the subject of Librado Andrade who has been one of the
best kept secrets in boxing for quite sometime now, and with
the exception of Pound4Pound.com and an occasional
appearance on HBO Latino, there are very few who even have
heard his name, but 2006 will be his time and you will know
exactly who he is before the summer.
I sat with Andrade for a while at the Taylor/ Hopkins
rematch and one person who definitely knows who he is, and
was more than aware of Andrade’s presence was one Jeff Lacy,
who was looking over his shoulder to glance at Andrade to
the point that it was extremely obvious he knew who the
young undefeated fighter was, and Lacy was distracted.
Also, as long as I am on the Andrade bandwagon, and I am,
I've noticed that a few publications and websites don't even
have Andrade in their own top ten of the Super Middleweight
Division.
That is laughable at best and could be attributed to one of
the following:
A. They don't know what the heck they are talking about
B. They are aware of our close relationship with Andrade and
out of sheer spite refuse to rank him any higher than ten
C. They are to busy trying to download the bootleg version
of King Kong
D. All of the above
Whatever the case may be, you can count on Pound4Pound.com
to be as close to this situation as possible. The real Mega
Match in the Super Middle’s is not Lacy vs. Calzaghe, gimme
a break. The best fight in that weight division will be the
unification bout with Lacy after Andrade snags the WBC Belt!
Remember where you heard that first!
