Best Fight On
"Undefeated" Weekend

Not to take away from Floyd Mayweather's
performance last Saturday night because it was truly
masterful, but if you are looking for best fight that went
down in Las Vegas last weekend you need look no further than
the Friday night rematch between Bronco McKart and Enrique
Ornelas with the NABF Middleweight belt weighing in the
balance.
On a Golden Boy card that was front
loaded with British prospects to help appease the appetite
of the British fans who came in droves to be in town
when their guy Hatton made his charge, it was McKart and
Ornelas who gave the English fans high quality, exciting and
competitive action.
In the weeks leading up to the rematch
both McKart & Ornelas made it clear that they were aware
this was a high profile weekend and they couldn't have been
more to the point.
With Golden Boy CEO's Oscar De La Hoya
and Richard Schaefer at ringside along with Bernard Hopkins
and Shane Mosley, this fight had the look and feel of a big
time battle. And for both fighters, it was just that.
After winning a close split decision in
their first bout, Bronco wanted to show the victory was no
fluke. Likewise Enrique wanted to show that the one judge
who saw him winning the last time was correct.
With that as a backdrop the two went
back to business.
The first round started a bit slow but
didn't stay that way for long as both men were throwing hard
punches when McKart threw a counter left and down went
Ornelas.
The second round went in similar fashion
and again Ornelas went down. Behind 4 points early things
didn't look good on paper for Ornelas, but that's why the
keep fighting.
Without even the slightest sense of
panic Ornelas headed into round three knowing full well his
task at hand, and from that moment on he took over the
fight.
Pressing McKart to the ropes Ornelas
began a body onslaught that was a loud as it was devastating
and by round 4 Ornelas forced McKart to take a knee after a
brutal body attack.
Not easing up Ornelas went back to the
same kind of work in round five and it had the same result,
McKart was forced to take a knee again. Beating the ten
count McKart survived the round to return to his corner
after a tough fifth stanza.
With the two knockdowns Ornelas had
evened the score and might have even pulled into a small
lead... this one was bound to get better.
But it was not meant to be as McKart's
corner informed the ref that Bronco could not go on further,
and just like that, Ornelas was the new NABF 160 pound
champ.
After the bout Ornelas performed the
Andrade/Ornelas victory back flip off the top rope which was
a fitting ending because this bout had everyone in
attendance head over heels full of thrills and spills.
On Enrique's victory walk back to the
dressing room Bernard Hopkins grabbed Ornelas and told him,
"You are the future of this division!"
It hasn't always been easy for Ornelas,
but after this victory and a big jump in the WBC ranking
"The Executioner" may be right about his former sparring
partner, Enrique Ornelas.
For McKart, it's just another bump in
the road in his long and title filled career, there's no
doubt he will be back.
As the defeated warrior left his
dressing room he looked at Ornelas, smiled and held up three
fingers and said, "Tres!"
Look's like Bronco has boned up on his
Spanish after back to back Golden Boy cards, and yeah, doing
it a third time (tres) may not be a bad idea.
