Randall Bailey’s Sweet Revenge

Report & Photos By Francisco Guzman

This Wednesday at BB King’s Blues Club & Grill in Times Square, New York City former junior welterweight champion Randall Bailey (38-6, 34 KOs) took on another former junior welterweight champ Demarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (31-10-1, 17 KOs) in the main event promoter Lou DiBella’s Broadway Boxing.

The two combatants had fought once before with Corley being the victor back in 2003. The bout was a scheduled 8 rounder in which Bailey dominated from the opening bell. In the 3rd round despite putting tremendous pressure on Corley, Bailey was able to knock Corley down with an over hand right.

The rest of the night was more of the same with Bailey over working Corley with over hand rights and body work. Judges scorecards read 79-72 (twice) and 78-73, all for Bailey. It was obvious that Corley did not seem to be the same fighter he once was losing six straight fights.

The co-feature event featured featherweights Gary “Kid” Starks Jr (22-2, 8 KOs) from Staten Islandand Levi Brea (16-7-3, 8 KOs) from the Dominican Republic in a six round scheduled bout.

The first and second rounds were uneventful but in the third Stark’s was able to drop Brea with a body shot and floored Brea again with a right hand in round six but was not able to finish him. Breawas deducted point for excessive holding after the sixth round knockdown. Scores were 59-52, 60-51, 60-51.

Making his pro debut Tor Hamer (1-0, 1 KO) made quick work of his opponent Joe Rabotte (2-4, 1 KO), dropping him in the first and second rounds with a huge left hook before finishing him with a barrage of punches with only 44 seconds into the round.

Also making his pro debut, Phillip Jackson-Benson (1-0, 1 KO) from Brooklyn N.Y. quickly ended things stopping Robert Harris 1:08 of the first round.

Hajro Sujak decisioned Richmond Dalphone in a 4 round super middleweight bout. Scores were 39-37 (twice) and 38-38.

Both Edgar Santana who was the main event and Will Rosinsky were forced not to compete because of mishaps with their opponents. The fighters wore pink gloves in support of breast cancer awareness and research. The Card will support breast cancer awareness month.
