The bomb dropped in the main event Latin Fury 12 from Madison Square Garden Wa Mu Theater, Presented by Top Rank and Puerto Rico Best Boxing Promotions, It was clearly a showcase of a new generation of talent fighting out of Puerto Rico it was clearly time for “Juanma” Juan Manuel Lopez the WBO Featherweight Champion of the world defended his title against Rogers Mtagwa in a 12th round battle, Lopez clearly became a man tonight.

In the first round of action Juan Manuel Lopez out punched Rogers Mtagwa with great over hand rights and fast combinations to open the bout. Mtagwa choosing to make a fight out of it came back in round 2 with a few shots of his own, but could not match the speed from Lopez. In round three both fighters took off in a series of exchanges, There was clearly no holding back in this round Mtagwa got of some good exchanges and Lopez responded quickly very hard round to score.

Lopez rallied in the 4th after catching Mtagwa a few quick hooks too the head standing in the center of the ring in fire with Mtagwa who continued to come forward in attack. Lopez used good movement showed controlled of the fight in the situation, The fight continued too heat up as the tables slightly turned for ‘Juanma” as Mtagwa just did not led up in the fight.

In the Championship rounds Lopez continued too show his good armor battling it out with Mtagwa who continues to fight Lopez back hard and started to sense weariness from Lopez, In the final round Lopez took extreme shots too the head and held on too survive the round to pull out the victory In the judges scores Announcer Michael Buffer read off a 116-116 score that was a miss read and was changed after the fight by the New York State Boxing Commission to 116-111 also 114-113 and 115-111 for Lopez.

In a WBA World Featherweight title Yuriorkis Gamboa from Cuba goes (16-0, 13 KO’s) as he stops Whyber Garcia (22-7, 15 KO’s) In his debut in the Garden, Gamboa quickly after the fight told the crowd on hand that he wants a showdown next year with “Juanma”.

Heavyweight Odlanier Solis remains undefeated after crushing Monte Berratt a quick replacement who came 9in for Fres Oquendo, Berratt took punishment from the bell as Solis controlled the temple of the fight landing the more effective power shots in the fight dropping Barrett like a tree in the bout Barrett could not continue.

Lightweight action Martin Tucker (7-4, 3 KO’s) annihilates Michael Torres with the unanimous decision in sixth, all three judges have it 57-56.

Super Lightweights James Ventry fell short of what most thought was a lopsided Unanimous decision given to Omar Chavez who stays undefeated (18-0-1, 13 KO’s). Scores were 58-55 two judges and 59-54.

Cruiserweights Carlos Negron (5-0, 4 KO’s) from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Winner of the unanimous decision over Larry Pryor from Huston, Tx.

Jorge Diaz young prospect of Pat Lynch former manager of Arturo Gatti, Won a 6th round TKO at 1:07 with a very evenly match fight Diaz connected with a left hook that dropped Yan Barthelemy in the final round. Diaz still remains underfeated at (10-0, 6 KO’s).

Irish John Duddy won in a hard fought fight against rugged warrior Jorge Munoz, Duddy showed great boxing skills and speed in the fight by landing the more effective punches in the fight.

Super Welterweight Pawel Wolak goes to 25-1, 17 KO’s after referee stops the fight after 5 rounds Carlos Nascimiento in a slug fest that was determined in the 5th round after Nascimiento just could not go on in the fight, Wolak averaged about 45 punches per round.
