Bernard Hopkins showed
up at the international Québec City Airport, around 5.30
P.M. He wisely was wearing very warm clothes as it is
freezing cold up here. As he got into the airport,
Hopkins took a look at tourist pamphlet that showed how
to cross the Laurentien National Park (between Québec
and Chicoutimi) on a skidoo! Hopkins seemed to be in a
great mood.
“I am very, very happy with my preparation, this was the
best training camp of my life. Saturday will be a major
night for me, I want to make history. I want to become
the oldest fighter ever to beat a world champion. George
Foreman was 45 years old when he won the WBA heavyweight
championship of the world against Michael Moorer in
1994, but, Saturday, I will be nine days older that he
was, when I take Pascals belt,” said Hopkins.
A journalist said,
“Monday, Pascal said that the most intelligent fighter
will win Saturday night”.
Hopkins smiled, and replied, “He said that? That's bad
news for him. I am a very intelligent guy, and he is a
dummy! Watch me Saturday night. I will give him a
lesson. He is just a student, I am the teacher. No
student will teach me anything in boxing”.
Another journalist told him,”Bernard, the Pepsi Colisée
will be jammed full of Pascal fans Saturday night. You
don't believe that it will be a plus for Pascal?”
Bernard answered, “At the beginning of the fight, it is
obvious that the crowd will give massive support to
Pascal, but the more that I dominate the fight, the more
the crowd will be quite. And a quite crowd will depress
Pascal and motivate me”.
Another media member
said, “Bernard, you have the reputation to be become a
dirty fighter when you want to frustrate your opponent”.
“What can I tell you? A fight is a battle”, said
Hopkins, “In every fight there are cheap shots. I did
not invent cheap shots”.
Hopkins laughed when a journalist told him,”Pascal said
that the pressure will be on your shoulders, because you
are a legend, you have a huge reputation to protect”.
Hopkins said,” What a joke! Pascal will have the
pressure, not me. He will box in front of his fans, not
me. And do you think that pressure means anything to me?
I have been involved in 24 world championship fights,
and I won 20 of them. Do you seriously think that
pressure is a big thing for me?”
Pascal, Hopkins, their trainers, their promoters and the
Québec City Mayor, Régis Labeaume, will participate in
the final press conference, Wednesday, at the City Hall.
