McEwan Gets Majority Nod At
Pechanga
Report & Photos By William Trillo
He was bloodied and
thrown to the canvas but middleweight Craig McEwan
(19-0, 10 KO's) weathered the storm that was brought on
by rugged veteran Danny Perez (34-8, 17 KO's) and went
on to win a hard fought majority decision.
From the first round
McEwan knew he was in for a war as Perez pressed the
action and he kept the fleet footed Scot on his toes.
Cut over his right eye early McEwan picked up the action
and landed numerous combinations on the charging Perez.
The battle saw McEwan
thrown to the canvas by an over aggressive Perez and the
crowd who came to see Perez get the upset win was
raucous throughout the battle.
In the end it was McEwan
who prevailed as he squeaked by with the win. Cards read
95-95 & 97-93 twice in favor of the undefeated Golden
Boy prospect.
In the semi-main event a
charged up Featherweight Charles Huerta (14-1, 7 KO's)
put on a dominant performance against Jonathon Arias
(15-5, 8 KO's).
Huerta sent Arias down
early with a well placed body shot but Arias sucked it
up and got back on his feet to give it his best shot.
Huerta used all his
arsenal over the next few rounds and repeatedly landed
solid hooks that clipped his foes jaw time and time
again.
But it was an all out
assault in round 6 that led to more body work from
Huerta that brought an end to the scrap at the 1:40 mark
of that final round.
In the opening bout of
the night Welterweight Anthony Martinez (4-0,4KO's)
needed just 37 seconds to stop Nichoulas Briannes (1-6)
who fell victim to a great body shot.
In a middleweight bout
Cerresso Fort (10-0,8 KO's) pounded Steve Macomber
(3-9-1) in a four round shutout. Scores read 40-36 on all
cards keeping Fort's undefeated record intact.
