St. Patty's Day In Montreal
Twin Title Bill Features Bute & Molitor
St-Juste & Miranda Round Out Card
By Daniel Cloutier
At a press conference today InterBox confirmed my news wrote
in Québec City this weekend, that the Irish Brian Magee, the
European champion, will fight Lucian Bute March 19th at Bell
Centre. On the undercard, will be Steve Molitor, who will
defend his IBF super bantamweight title, in a rematch with
the South Africain Takalani Ndlovu and Renan St-Juste vs.
Edison Miranda in a Super Middleweight slugfest.
Jean Bédard, InterBox boss, said, "It will be our first
St-Patrick boxing show. The atmosphere in the Bell Center
will be great, because Bute is fighting a pure Irishman, who
lives in Belfast, North Ireland."
Don Majesky added, "We made a good offer ($400,000) to the
German Dimitri Sartosin (the WBA champion substitute,
because the real WBA champion is Andre Ward), he said yes,
and he changed is mind. Then, the best men available was
Brian Magee, because he is ranking first contender by the
WBA, second by the WBC and eighth by the IBF."
Lucian Bute's trainer, Stephan Larouche stated, "I know
Magee very well. He is aggressive, persistent, courageous,
and he can hit hard with is right hook. Lucian will need
special preparation, because Magee is only the 3rd southpaw
that Bute is facing in his professional boxing career.
Lucian will work in Miami between January 17th and March
12th. The last southpaw who fought Bute is the Russian
Sergey Tatevosyan in 2007. In Miami, Lucian will do a lot of
sparring with southpaws."
Last but not least Bute said, "I saw Magee fights on tape. I
got to take this very seriously because the WBA is ranking
him first, the WBC second and the IBF 8th."
Bute then announced, "I have a message for my fans...I
cannot wait to face the winner of the "Super Six", no matter
if it is Carl Froch or Andre Ward. Showtime confirmed to me
that I will face the winner of this tournament, at the end
of 2011 or in 2012. Jean Bédard knows that I am ready to
fight all the top fighters in my division."
