  Bute & Johnson Teleconference Highlights

By Daniel Cloutier

Lucian Bute, who will defend is IBF super middleweight world title for the eighth time, said the key for him, will be to impose his style in the ring, and prevent Glen Johnson from doing the same, November 5th at the Colisée in Québec City.

“Johnson has a lot of experience, he is strong physically, he is aggressive and energetic in the ring and I will have a long evening in the ring if I let him impose his style,” said Bute. I got to neutralize his style and impose mine. If I am imposing my style and my strategy I will dominate all the rounds and easily win the fight. That is exactly what I am planning to do. Johnson has a good jab and a dangerous right hand, but I know what to do and how to block them.”

Bute had Johnson as sparring partner two years ago as he was preparing himself for the rematch with Librado Andrade, and Johnson was preparing himself for his last meeting with Chad Dawson.

“The training was intense every day with Johnson,” said Lucian. “No one wanted to let the other control the action. However, for me, sparring sessions cannot be compared to a fight. In a fight, the tension is high, and the control of the emotions is major.”

On fighting in Quebec City Bute said, “The atmosphere at the Colisée de Québec was fantastic the night of my rematch with Andrade, I expect the same thing November 5th. Jean Bédard told me that more than 13,000 tickets has been sold, and he is expecting a sold out like the night of the rematch with Andrade. It will be fantastic for me.”

When a journalist asked Lucian if he was considering Johnson as his toughest opponent, Bute said, “Absolutely! Johnson is not afraid of anybody. He fought Roy Jones Jr., Antonio Tarver, Bernard Hopkins and Chad Dawson. He deserves all my respect. I was in Atlantic City few months ago, when he fought Carl Froch. I would be crazy to think that Johnson is not dangerous.”

“The people who believe I have no chance against Lucian, will have a surprise November 5th,” said Glen Johnson. I am perfectly prepared for this other opportunity to win a world title. Bute has great skills, long arms, fast hands, he has a perfect record record, it is a great challenge for me. My plan is to chase him from the beginning to the end, and use my power, my physical and my experience to put him in trouble. No doubt in my mind that I will leave Québec City with the IBF belt in my luggage.”

A journalist asked Bute if a fight between him and Jean Pascal is eminent.

“Going to the light heavyweight division in not in my plans for 2012, said Bute. I want to fight the best super middleweights in the world in 2012. The winner of the “Super Six” is on the line for me, to unify the 168 pounds world titles. However, I don’t want to think or talk of Carl Froch or Andre Ward now. I got to take care of Glen Johnson.
