  Adonis Stevenson Looks Ahead

By Daniel Cloutier

Ranked seven in the world by the WBA, the Montrealer Adonis Stevenson (15-1-0) will be involved in the most important bout of his career December 10th at the Bell Center in Montréal. He will fight the American Aaron Pryor Jr. (16-4-0), the son of the former WBA super lightweight champion of the world, Aaron Pryor, in a NABA, NABO and IBF Inter-continental super middleweight championship, just before the WBC international middleweight championship between the Montrealers David Lemieux (25-1-0) and Joachim Alcine (32-2-1).

“It will be the most important challenge of my career, and I am impatient to live this great experience,” said Stevenson, a southpaw coming from Haiti. “I know what I have to do to win this fight. I watched several times the tape of the fight Andrade-Pryor. I know that Librado has been surprised and confused by the Pryor’s style, who is moving a lot in the ring. Pryor has very long arms, and he is using this advantage in jabbing often. My plan is to use my double jabs to be closer to him, and hurt him at the body. The more that he will try to protect his ribs, more I will have chances to hit him hard at the head.”

Stevenson, who has 12 wins by KO, is considered as the most dangerous puncher in Canada, with David Lemieux. “If I see that Pryor is hurt or tired, I will do my best to knock him out, but I never look for a fast KO. I am prepared for 12 rounds, and I don’t mind to win by decision.”

Yvon Michel, the GYM group boss, believes in the chances that Stevenson and Andrade will fight in a IBF super middleweight world championship in 2012 or 2013. The actual IBF champion, the Romanian Montrealer Lucian Bute, could move in the light heavyweight division after his unification titles fight with the winner of the “Super Six”.

Bute and his trainer, Stephan Larouche, will attend the fight Froch-Ward December 17th in Atlantic City. Showtime is planning to oppose Bute to Ward or Froch next summer, to unify the IBF, WBC and WBA world titles.

“I got to take care of Pryor now, but there no doubt in my mind that I will be involved in a major world championship fight in 2012, said Stevenson. Librado Andrade, Carl Froch, Lucian Bute, Mikkel Kessler, Andre Ward... name it, I will be ready to fight all the big names of the super middleweight division in 2012 and 2013.”
