Adonis Stevenson vs. Aaron
Pryor Jr. Confirmed
By Daniel Cloutier
Yvon Michel has confirmed that Super Middleweight Adonis
Stevenson will fight Aaron Pryor Jr. in a doubleheader
December 10th at The Bell Center in Montreal. The co-feature
bout of this doubleheader puts home grown David Lemieux
against another Montrealer, former WBA super welterweight
champion, Joachim Alcine (he lost his world title to the
Puerto Rican Daniel Santos in 2008 in Montréal). Lemieux
will fight for the first time since his first loss, against
the Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio.
Jean Pascal was hoping to get a rematch with Chad Dawson on
that show, but noting has been confirmed for him. It seems
that Pascal is ready to fight against Dawson but only at the
condition that the WBC light heavyweight world title is
involved. Complicated, because José Sulaiman has confirmed
in Mexico that Bernard Hopkins is still world champion after
the controversial ending in Los Angeles.
Thursday night, before the fight Dierry Jean-Lorenzo, Yvon
Michel told me that he is wondering if Sulaiman will
sanction an interim world title fight between Pascal and
Dawson, considering that Hopkins is injured.
If the WBC is sanctioning an interim world title, it has to
be done fast because the December 10th show is in less than
seven weeks.
My prediction is that Pascal will not fight before January
or February. This should give enough time for the WBC
championship committee to decide a future in the saga
Hopkins-Dawson-Pascal.
