Lemieux & Rubio Ready For War

By Daniel Cloutier

Marco Antonio Rubio did make the weight at 1 pm Thursday at the radio station Radio-Énergie. He was seven ounces over the weight, at this weigh-in. But, two hours after he was OK. At his second try, he had a weight of 159.15 pounds. Lemieux had a perfect weight of 159.6 pounds. The two fighters did not talk to the media.

Russ Anber, David Lemieux’s trainer, said, "I can guess that Rubio was struggling to maintain his weight during is training camp, but it is his problem, not ours. David has working like hell during his two months and a half of training, but he was constantly careful with his weight. I did a great job to be prepare for the most important fight of his life. David is a few hours away from his biggest challenge, the biggest test of his career, but he is extremely confident. I know that he will fight with is heart and brain. You know David is like me, he has never accepted a close win. He wants to always win clearly. I really think that he deliver the best performance of his career Friday night."

Bernard Barré, Yvon Michel's assistant, the scout of the GYM group and the men who put Lemieux on contract, said, "David is maybe the best puncher in the Canadian boxing history, but never has he taken a punch harder than the punches he will take against Rubio. It will a tremendous test for his chin. If David can take all the Rubio’s power punches, he will certainly win the fight. David is a more complete fighter than Rubio, but Rubio has huge experience and he his a real warrior."

Trainer Howard Grant will be in the Adonis Stevenson’s corner Friday night. Stevenson is involved in the semi-final of the show. He will fight the American Derek Edwards in a NABA super middleweight championship fight.
