MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Antonin Décarie lived some of the greatest moments of his career Saturday evening in the ring of the Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut. He stopped in less than six rounds the American Alex Perez, who showed up in the ring with a perfect record of 16-0-0. The commentators of HBO were expecting a 17th win for the fighter of Newark, New Jersey, a tall southpaw.

"A great evening for me, no doubt about it," said Décarie Sunday evening. "I got a spectacular win at my first appearance on HBO, and you know as me how much it's important for my future on the international boxing level. I was WBC International champion before the fight, and today, I am the new NABF welterweight champion. I was ranked seven in the WBC ratings before this win, then, I have a good chance to be in the Top five before the end of the year."

'I was extremely confident to win that bout with the splendid preparation I had for two months", said Décarie, who is trained by Marc Ramsay. "I was very hungry in the first round, and it was important to be the attacker over there. Perez was the local fighter, not me. I knew I needed to win clearly all the rounds. No doubt that my aggressiveness and my experience as pro boxer had a big impact in the result of the fight. I was moving in the ring at the good moments, and I was attacking at the goods moments. I saw in the first round that Perez was unable to block my right hand, then, I threw more power shots than him in every round. In the fifth round, I connected on him solidly with my left hooks and right hand, and I could see in his face he was worried. I hit him more and more solidly in the sixth, and I hurt him like you saw it."

Décarie (27-1-0) who won clearly four of the first five rounds, cracked Perez in the six, and sent him of the floor few seconds after.

Perez got back on his legs, but he was really in trouble. Décarie jumped on him and threw several power shots, until the intervention of the referee, who declared Perez TKO'd.

"It is a very important win for me, and I hope to be involved in a major fight in 2013," said Décarie. "If I receive an offer for an elimination bout or an interim world championship fight, I will certainly consider it. However, I am realistic. With all the great names in the welterweight division, including Floyd Mayweather Jr,, Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley, I will probably need to be patient before receiving an invitation for a world championship fight."
