Alvarez-Green Cancelled For The Second Time

By Daniel Cloutier

The fight which was opposing the Montrealer Eleider Alvarez and the American Allan Green Friday night in Hartford, Connecticut, has been cancelled yet another time. It was supposed to be the main event of an ESPN-2 Boxing night.

Originally scheduled for May 25th in Montréal, this fight Alvarez-Green was cancelled two days before this event (Stevenson-Dawson), when HBO has decided to add a fight between the Puerto Rican Jose “Sniper” Pedraza (13-0-0) and the Mexican Sergio Villanueva (25-2-2), a bout won by Pedraza by TKO in the seventh round.

A few days after this show presented at Bell Centre, the promoter of the GYM Group, Yvon Michel, made an agreement with the rapper-promoter 50 Cent to reschedule the fight Alvarez-Green for July 5th in Hartford.

Green (32-4-0), who was six pounds overweight at the weigh in Thursday afternoon, was hospitalized a few hours before the show Friday, because of food poisoning.

The big question now: Yvon Michel will try a third time to oppose Alvarez to Green or he will forget the idea?

Alvarez (12-0-0), a Colombian who is living in Montréal since the beginning of his pro boxing career (2009), is NABA and NABO light heavyweight North American champion. He is ranked fourth contender by the WBA, and seventh by the WBO.He wants absolutely to fight for the WBA or the WBO light heavyweight championship of the world in 2014.
Green is a veteran from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was involved in the Super Six Showtime tournament in 2010.
