Chris Arreola held a media workout today in Rancho Cucamonga, CA at the Warzone Boxing Club. He was the only one who worked today, although Oscar Molina was supposed to do some ring work as well. For some reason, that didn’t happen.

Arreola spoke a bit about all of the delays that have stood in the way of his getting a fight. “At first it was really frustrating,” he said. “But the thing about it is, it’s boxing, it happens, so I just take it with a grain of salt. Like when I got sick, there was nothing I could do about it. You get sick, you get sick, that happens.

“But you know, after so many times it feels like, ‘Man, is this fight even gonna happen?’ That’s exactly what I felt like. But I feel great now, I’m happy. The fight’s only two weeks away.”

Then the talk moved to his opponent. “Ah, Bermane Stiverne, a Haitian, lives in Canada and was part of the Canadian boxing team. He has a lot of International experience. I think amateur experience is one of the most important things for boxers, because you get the feeling of the crowd, you get the feeling of being in an actual big event.

“He’s a hard puncher; he has that one punch equalizer, that if you get punched, it’s night-night time. I’ll have to always be aware of my surroundings. I have to keep my hands up at all times and make sure I see where the punches are coming from.

“The knockout power is on both sides,” he continued. “I have to make sure that when I connect I make it count. I don’t want him one chance to win this fight, so hopefully the sooner the better I get him out of there.

“This fight is a title eliminator. Once I win this fight I fight within three months for the world title. If Vitali (Klitschko) stays active, then it’s Vitali. If not then I have to fight for the basic title against whoever they say. But I want Vitali; I want Vitali!”

As previously mentioned, Oscar Molina thought he was going to do some work, but did not. “I’m all ready here,” he laughed. He was all dressed up with nowhere to go, so to speak, as he stood with his hands wrapped, ready for action.

“I’m ready for my fight. Actually, I just had a fight last weekend, and I’m feeling good and ready to go on the 27. I try to stay busy and I like to fight a lot. I’m a boxer and I’m doing what I like, so I’m ready.”

Oscar doesn’t know his opponent yet, but it doesn’t matter to him. “As long as I stay focused and train hard it doesn’t matter.”

Twin brother Javier was also supposed to be on the April 27 card, but he is still having a bit of trouble with his hand. Expect to see him back in the ring very soon.

The Arreola vs. Stiverne fight can be seen on HBO Saturday, April 27 on Boxing Before Dark, and will take place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA.
