Bizier & Asseltine On ESPN

MONTRÉAL - For the first time of is pro boxing career, Kevin
Bizier will be involved in a main event of an ESPN Boxing
Night Show Februrary 8th at the Bell Centre Theatre. A
talented fighter from Québec City, Bizier (19-0-0), who is
ranked 5th contender of the WBA welterweight championship of
the world, will face the British southpaw John O'Donnell
(27-2-0) in a 12 rounds bout.
Bizier will make a defense of his NABA North American
championship. O'Donnell was Commonwealth champion from 2009
and 2011. The other fight (10 rounds) televised by ESPN that
night, will oppose Tyler Asselstine (17-0-0), a super
featherweight from Ottawa, and the prospect Joel Diaz
(11-0-0), from Palmdale, California.
“This fight with O'Donnell is certainly the biggest test of
my pro boxing career,” said Bizier Tuesday morning in a
press conference held at the Houston Restaurant of Square
Victoria in Montréal downtown. “O'Donnell is a dangerous
southpaw. He is a solid fighter with a lot of experience. I
will need to use my speed and my skills to dominate each
round, and it is exactly what I am planning to do. No doubt
in my mind I am ready now for the major leagues of the pro
boxing. It will be the first time I will be involved in a
main event of an ESPN Boxing Night show, then, I need to get
a perfect performance.”
Guy Jutras, the supervisor of the WBA on the Canadian
territory, a member of the WBA officials and championship
committees, believes that Bizier will be involved soon in a
world championship.
“Like every NABA champions, Kevin is close to a
participation of a WBA world championship bout,” said Jutras,
a man of 82 years old who has been referee and judges in 80
world championship fights. “We will certainly get an eye on
him this year and next year.”
Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group, is also impressed
by Bizier. “Kevin became Canadian champions six times in the
amateurs, and he is on a way to become a big star in pro
boxing,” said Barré. “I can predict that Kevin will draw
over 15,000 fans at the Québec City Colisée in 2014 et 2015.
He is not only talented, he is so spectacular.”
The Montrealer Joachim Alcine (33-3-0), a former WBA super
welterweight champion of the world, the heavyweight Didier
Bence (6-0-0), also from Montréal, and the super
featherweight Kevin Lavallée (11-0-1), from St-Adèle,
Québec, will take part of the three most important
preliminary bouts of the evening. Alcine will face David
Toribio (19-14-0), from Miami, Bence will fight Joey Dawejko
(7-1-2), from Philadelphia, and Lavallée will be opposed to
Krzystof Rogowski (5-0-0), from Poland.
It will be the first show of the series “Rapides et
Dangereux” (Fast and dangerous) presented this year by the
promoter Yvon Michel, from the GYM Group.
