Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Stephan Larouche: "Bute Has
Learned To Deal With The Pain"
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - Many times since six months, Jean Pascal said
that Lucian Bute was burned in his head since his terrible
defeat against the British Carl Froch. May 26th 2012 in
Nottingham, Bute got the first loss of his pro boxing
career, and this defeat by TKO in less than five rounds
against Froch (32-2-0), cost him the IBF super middleweight
championship of the world.
Bute (31-1-0) and Pascal (28-2-1), two Montrealers, will
fight January 18th at Bell Centre in Montréal, in a NABF
North American light heavyweight championship bout. Many
considered this match up like the most prestigious local
fight in the history of the Canadian pro boxing. “If Pascal
believes seriously that Lucian is finished since his
difficult night in Nottingham, he will have a hell of
surprise January 18th, said Stephan Larouche, the Bute's
trainer. Lucian learned a lot of things in this defeat. More
than everything, he learned to suffer in the ring. In each
round against Froch, Lucian has been hit solidly, and the
pain made him loose his concentration. It won't happen
against Pascal. Lucian will know this time how to react when
Pascal will hit him solidly. No matter the pain, Lucian will
keep his concentration and come back in the action. No doubt
in my mind, this terrible lost in Nottingham made Lucian a
more mature fighter, a fighter better prepared to face
adversity. Lucian said his fans will see a Lucian Bute
better than ever January 18th, and I believe it myself.”
Pascal is training in Big Bear, California, and Bute is
doing it in Montréal. “Many times I trained in Florida for
an important bout, said Bute, but this time I wanted to
doing here in Montréal, in the winter weather. And I love
the experience. Day after day, I am perfectly concentrated
on my work in the gym. I feel relax and confident. We will
see in action a Lucian Bute extremely energetic and
concentrated January 18th.”
