Scorecards In Chavez Jr.
Victory Smell Rotten

You need look no further than the scorecards of the Julio
Cesar Chavez Jr. (47-1-1, 32 KO’s) vs. Brian Vera (23-7,14
KO’s) bout to understand why many sports fans will stay away
from boxing because of the perception that “the fix is in”.
All you had to do is listen to the fans booing in the
background after the fight as Chavez Jr. tried to explain
his victory. Mind you, these are fans that most likely came
there to see Chavez Jr. only to be disappointed by a simply
pathetic performance by one of the most coddled and spoon
fed fighters ever to set foot in the squared circle. Ardent
Chavez Jr. fans have turned their backs on this kid but
apparently as long as he keeps putting asses in the seats he
will always be given the benefit of the doubt. One only need
look at the charade of multiple postponements of this fight
and the inevitable weight issue to see that the powers that
be will always bend over backwards for this kid as long as
at the end of the day the same powers can fill line their
pockets with fistfuls of cashola.
While Vera came into this fight with a game plan, which he
performed almost flawlessly, Chavez Jr. came in with a wing
and a prayer hoping one shot would take the blown up Super
Welterweight out. That never happened and for the second
fight in a row Chavez Jr. came out looking a lot worse for
wear. For his efforts Vera gets a nice payday and a hearty
pat on the back of a job well done but the victory that he
deserved was given to a kid by three blind mice who were the
only folks in the house who saw Chavez Jr. winning.
In the aftermath, when all the bitching and moaning is done
the fact will remain that Chavez Jr. has been spoon fed
another big fight and could be fighting for a major title
along with the pile of money that goes along with it. This
is simply a travesty at all levels and whether you believe
the fix was in or you just blame three very inept judges it
is going to be hard to deny there wasn’t something extremely
smelly going on in Carson, California on Saturday night.
Oh, by the way, now that Chavez Jr. has “earned” his way to
another title shot may I be the first to suggest to his team
to read the article below and then stand up and fight him. I
won’t hold my breath waiting for an answer in the
affirmative.
