Dawson: "Stevenson Is
Overrated"
Stevenson: "Its Dawson Who Is Overrated"

MONTRÉAL - Just before his departure from Montréal, Chad
Dawson said that the Montrealer Adonis Stevenson is
pretentious, nasty and overrated. “I had to go on BoxRec to
know who was Adonis Stevenson,” said Dawson, the WBC light
heavyweight champion of the world. “For a boxer who did not
prove anything so far, Stevenson is pretentious, nasty and
overrated. He will learn to respect me June 8th.”
Stevenson (20-1-0), who is ranked first contender of the IBF
super middleweight championship of the world and fourth
contender by the WBC in the light heavyweight division, is
laughing when Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Dawson's trainer, is
saying that Chad is one the greatest champion of his
generation.
“Dawson and his trainer believe I am overrated, but
personally, I believe that Dawson is himself overrated. He
is ranked as the best fighter of 175 pounds on the planet,
and this guy built his reputation in beating several old
fighters, boxers who were declining. When he fought hot
fighters (Andre Ward and Jean Pascal), he lost. Dawson can
believe I am a nobody, I don't care. He will see what my two
fists can do when the bell will ring. Dawson thinks his
boxing skills will make him win June 8th, but I am
absolutely sure his chin won't take my power shots during 12
rounds.”
Stevenson also left Montréal after the Wednesday press
conference. He will work for two months at the Kronk Gym in
Detroit. “Emmanuel Steward is dead, but believe me, this
legend has an incredible influence on the Adonis
confidence,” said Yvon Michel, the promoter of the GYM
Group. “From the moment he met Emmanuel, two years ago at
the Kronk Gym, Adonis started to believe seriously in his
potential as world champion. And from that point, you saw
it, Adonis won all his fights by KO or TKO (last seven). And
we opposed him to the best super middleweight available in
the world in 2011 and 2012. As Emmanuel Steward said it two
years ago, Adonis can become a big star in the boxing major
leagues.
On his side, Dawson (31-2-0) said he does not want anymore
to have his nickname (bad). “I am not bad, I am good,” said
Dawson. “My nickname Bad is dead.”
