Froch-Kessler Rematch Is Done;
Purse Bid For Stevenson-Froch Cancelled

MONTRÉAL -The IBF championship committee has been obliged to
cancel its purse bid for the super middleweight world
championship bout which was supposed to oppose the
Montrealer Adonis Stevenson and the British Carl Froch next
spring in Montréal or Nottingham. The purse bid was
scheduled for today (Tuesday) at 1.00 P.M. at the IBF head
office in New Jersey.
The reason of the cancellation: the European promoters Ed
Hearn and Wilfrid Sauerland finalized a deal to organize a
rematch between Froch and the Danish Mikkel Kessler, an IBF
and WBA unification bout scheduled for May 25th in London.
Stevenson's promoter, Yvon Michel, the boss of the GYM
Group, was at the IBF head office today for the purse bid.
Last month, the IBF sent a letter to Yvon Michel, confirming
the sanction of a world championship fight between Stevenson
(19-1-0) and Froch. Yvon Michel and Ed Hearn had two weeks
of free negotiations, and in case if no agreement possible,
the IBF was holding a purse bid Tuesday. But Hearn was
trying during the same time to make a deal with Kessler, who
beat Froch by unanimous decision in April 2010 in Danemark,
in the third round of the Showtime Super Six Tournament.
Tuesday morning, Hearn confirmed to the IBF the deal for a
rematch between Froch (30-2-0) and Kessler (46-2-0).
Apparently, Hearn and Sauerland came to an agreement very
late Monday night.
Wednesday, Yvon Michel should confirm his next move for
Stevenson (19-1-0), who is the IBF mandatory challenger.
According to some sources, the IBF will sanction a
unification title bout between Froch and Kessler, at the
condition the winner will face Stevenson 90 days after that
bout.
