Jean vs. Peterson In Negotiations

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The IBF championship committee has confirmed its decision to sanction a super lightweight world title fight between the Montrealer Dierry Jean and the American Lamont Peterson. The promoters of the two fighters, the Montrealer Camille Estephan, from Eye Of The Tiger Management Group, and Golden Boy Promotions, will receive a letter from the IBF in the last week of September, indicating they have one month a free negotiation. If no agreement is possible to decide the site and the date of the fight, the IBF will ordered a purse bid at the beginning of October.

Peterson (31-2-1), a fighter of 29 years old coming from Memphis, Tennessee, is the IBF champion. Jean (25-0-0) became the IBF mandatory challenger May 10th in Oklahoma, in beating the Californian Cleotis Pendarvis (17-4-2) by TKO in less than four rounds in decisive elimination bout.

“It is my dream to be involved in a world championship bout,” said Jean. “I know I will be the next IBF champion.”

Guy Jutras, the Canadian director of the WBA and a member of the officials of the WBA believes Jean is actually the best natural talent of the Canadian pro boxing.
