Lemieux Demolishes Torres
& Other Undercard Results From Quebec City

The young middleweight David Lemieux, from Montréal, proved
his great determination and strong desire to participate to
a world championship bout in 2014, Saturday evening in the
ring of the Québec City Colisée. Lemieux, who sent six times
the Colombian Jose Miguel Torres (27-6-0) on the floor,
improved his record to 31-2-0, in winning by TKO in the 7th
round. For Lemieux, it was a 29th wins by KO or TKO. Lemieux
sent Torres on the floor twice in the second round, the
first time with a left hook, the second time with an
uppercut to the chin.
After a close third round, Lemieux provoked a third
knockdown at the end of the fourth round, with a solid left
hand on the face. Lemieux hit hardly Torres in the fifth,
the Colombian refused to fall. However, in the 6th, Lemieux
sent Torres on the canvas for the third and the fourth times
of the fight, with great power shots to the head and the
body. Torres put a knee on the floor for the fifth and sixth
times in the 7th round, and at this moment, his trainers
threw the towel, allowing to Lemieux a win by TKO.
ZEWSKI BY KO
Mikael Zewski, a welterweight from Trois-Rivières, Québec,
associated to Top Rank Inc. in Las Vegas, made another step
in direction of an eventual participation to a North
American championship. Zewski increased his perfect record
do 22-0-0, in beating Ryan Lee Davis (24-12-3), from East
Saint-Louis, Illinois, by KO at 2.01 minutes of the third
round.
Fast and aggressive, Zewski hurt his opponent in every round
with power shots to the head and the body. In the third,
Zewski hit solidly Davis 15 times in a row, provoking the
first knockdown of the bout. Before the end of the round,
Zewski sent Davis on the floor two others times, with great
body punches, winning automatically by KO. Zewski hopes to
get a shot for a North American title January 18th, when
Lucian
Bute will face Jean Pascal in the ring of the Bell Centre.,
“No doubt I am ready for a North American championship, said
Zewski right after the fight. Tonight, I was hitting David
solidly, but I am especially proud of the precision of my
shots. Yes, I am now a mature fighter.”
MARTEL SURPRISED BENCE
The Montréal heavyweight Didier Bence, who won six times the
amateur Canadian boxing championship, suffered of his first
lost in pro boxing just before the fight Zekski-Davis. Eric
Martel (10-3-0) caused a real surprise in beating Bence, who
lost by KO at 2.44 minutes of the second round, after three
knockdowns in less than a minute and a half. For Martel, its
by far the most significant win of his pro boxing career.
Bence has now a record of 9-1-0.
BETERBIEV AND BOUCHARD UNDEFEATED
Former amateur champion of the world, the Montreal Russian
Artur Beterbiev, a light heavyweight who signed with the GYM
Group last spring, scored his third win in pro boxing
(3-0-0), a quick one against the Californian William Ray
Bailey (12-18-0). Beterbiev floored Bailey at the end of the
first round, and the American has been unable to get back on
his knees before the count of 10. Beterbiev got the KO 14
seconds before the end of this first round, in a bout
scheduled for six.
The middleweight Sébastien Bouchard, from Baie Saint-Paul,
Québec, improved his record to 8-0-0 in the opening bout of
the evening, in beating Mohammed Sidi Slimani (4-2-0), from
Belgium, by unanimous decision in six rounds. The three
judges gave all the rounds to Bouchard, who was the
aggressor from the beginning to the end.
