New NABF Champion Maduma
Tortures De Los Santos

GATINEAU, Québec - Ghislain Maduma, a Montrealer who wants
absolutely to be involve in a world championship fight in
the lightweight division in 2014, proved another time his
great talent Friday evening in the ring of the Lac Leamy
Casino in Gatineau, located at two miles of the Canadian
Capital city, Ottawa. WBC Americas Continental champion since
March, Maduma became NABF champion
Friday, in beating the Mexican Fermin De Los Santos by
unanimous decision in 12 rounds.
Maduma, who is ranked 10th by the IBF and 15th by the WBC,
has clearly dominated the rounds with his fast hands, his
good instinct, his beautiful technique, and his power shots
placed at the perfect time. For De Los Santos, who has been
tortured in most of the rounds, it was a first defeat in his
last 16 fights. Maduma has a perfect record of 15-0-0. The
judges scores showed the clear domination imposed by Maduma:
119-109, 120-109, 118-110.
“Yes, I really want to be world champion next year, and I am
working extremely hard to reach my goal,” said Maduma. “I
know I am improving my performances fight after fight, and
more and more, I am proving I am of the top lightweights in
the world. De Los Santos is a tough fighter, but each time I
was hitting solidly, he was smiling in my face, to hide his
pain. I think that my speed, my power and my
energy were great tonight.”
Mike Moffa, the Maduma's trainer, said: “We pick De Los
Santos because we knew he was tough. Ghislain is better and
better each fight, but he has only 15 pro fights of
experience. I hope to see him win a couple of more important
fights before get the shot for a world title.”
THREE DRAWS
In the two most important preliminary bouts of the evening,
the super featherweight Baha Laham, from Montréal, and the
light heavyweight Andy Gardiner, from Ottawa, fought with
courage and energy.Laham got a draw with the Mexican Mario
Perez (14-5-3), and Gardiner (9-0-0), who was attacking
furiously in every round with his Mike Tyson style, won by
KO in the third round against the courageous Polish boxer
Michal Nieroda (11-5-0).
The super middleweight Schiller Hyppolite floored the
Mexican Jaudiel Zepeda (12-9-1) in the third round, and the
referee stopped the fight few seconds after. Hyppolite
(8-1-0), a Montrealer, won by TKO at 2.08 minutes of that
round.
Mian Hussain, a very aggressive super middleweight from
Montréal used to win short bouts, knew that his match up
with the veteran Italian boxer Giuseppe Lauri (53-14-0)
would forced him to work hard for the complete six rounds of
action. It is exactly what's happened.
Hussain (7-0-0, a southpaw, won finally the bout by
unanimous decision. The lightweight Ibrahim Kamal, from
Toronto, who showed up in the ring with a perfect record of
9-0-0, was expecting a pretty easy fight against the French
Sébastien Benito. Surprise! Benito (11-7-0) provoked two
knockdowns and won the bout by TKO in the second minute of
the fourth round.
The two others lightweights on the show, Chris Plaitis
(4-0-1), from Montréal, and Michael Gadbois (9-0-2), from
Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, were expecting to win easily
against the Mexicans Saul Mendoza (9-7-1) and Edgar Torres
(5-6-1). Surprise! Plaitis and Gadbois has been both obliged
to accept a draw. The two fights were intense, roughs and
closed.In the case of Gadbois, it was a majority draw. A
judge scored the fight 39-37 for him, but the two others
judges scored 38-38.
The heavyweight Zack Bunce, from Las Vegas, improved his
record to 2-0-0 in beating Imantas Davidaitis (1-3-0), from
Leitonia, by unanimous decision in four rounds.
The super middleweight Pascal Villeneuve (3-0-0), from
Gatineau, Québec, floored twice Eric Roy and won by TKO in
the third round. The fighter from the Province of New
Brunwswick has now a record of 6-4-0.
Finally, in the opening bout of the event, the cruiserweight
Samer Barakat, from Ottawa, got successful debut in pro
boxing, in beating Denis Martin (2-4-1), from the Province
of New Brunswick, by KO in the first round.
