Maduma Wants To Be World
Champion In 2014

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer Ghislain Maduma showed this year a
great determination and a strong desire to be in the major
leagues of the pro boxing. And he is looking for bigger
achievements. Ranked 10th contender by the WBC and 13th by
the IBF in the lightweight division, Maduma (14-0-0) is the
actual WBC Continental Americas champion, and he can become
the new NABF lightweight champion Friday evening in the ring
of the Lac Leamy Casino in Gatineau, Québec (just beside
Ottawa).
Involved in the main event of this pro boxing show presented
by the promoter Camille Estephan, Maduma will face the
Mexican Fermin De Los Santos (24-13-2), who is undefeated at
its last 15 presences in the ring.
“De Los Santos is certainly more dangerous than his record
is showing it,” said Maduma. “I saw him in action in many
fights in watching videos. He is very aggressive, he can
punch and he can take a punch. I will need to fight with
discipline, and be effective offensively and defensively. I
am planning to use my body shots to slow him down. I really
want to be the dominant fighter in the second half of the
bout.”
A very talented boxer coming from the Republic of Congo,
Maduma is an ambitious athlete. “I wanted to reach the Top
10 in the world this year, and I did it,” said Maduma. “My
goal for 2014 is to become lightweight world champion. I
will give everything to reach my goal.”
Camille Estephan believes so much in the Maduma's potential.
“More and more I am persuaded that Ghislain is one of the
best lightweights on the planet,” said Estephan. “No doubt
in my mind he will become world champion next year. However,
he got to take De Los Santos seriously. This guy has not a
spectacular record, but he did not lose one of his last 15
bouts. I am sure he is coming in Canada to beat Ghislain. I
think we will see an intense fight.”
At the weigh in, Maduma registered a perfect weight of 134.5
pounds, versus 134 for the Mexican.
In the most important preliminary bout of the evening, Baha
Laham (12-0-1), a bantamweight weight from Montréal, will
face the Mexican Mario Perez (14-5-2).
The super middleweight Schiller Hyppolite (7-1-0), from
Montréal, will fight the Mexican Jaudiel Zepeta (12-8-1),
and the super welterweight Mian Hussain (6-0-0), also from
Montréal, will have the Hungarian Giuseppe Lauri (53-13-0)
as opponent.
The light heavyweights Mick Gadbois (9-0-1), from
Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec, and Andy Gardiner (8-0-0), from
Ottawa, will be also on the card.
