In a main event match emerging from the danger zone, “in favor for the winner and new WBA Welterweight Champion” is announced following reading of the score cards of 115-110, 116-109, 117-109 to an awaiting electrified-charged-up boxing fans in the Alamodome - San Antonio, Texas, Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in a unanimous decision - improving his professional boxing record to 35-3 (31 KO’s). The victory came over a title defense bout of the bold and brash, Adrien “The Problem” Broner from Cincinnati, OH. Added to his professional record is his first defeat as it is now 27-1 (22 KO’s).

Punching powerhouse Maidana as the Argentine knockout artist showcased spectacular boxing strength in tonight’s 12 round main event scoring 3 knockdowns’ in rounds 2nd, 5th and 8th.

Stunned in each of the knock-downs in the three rounds, wobbly and vulnerable “The Problem” Broner made defensive stances’ with a counter attack avoiding further knockdowns and/or risking a knockout surviving-escaping the round.

Maidana repeatedly being the aggressor stalked and preyed on Broner targeting the body that set up hard left hooks to the jaw, squeaking through Broner’s defense with right hand punches and creating openings to land “El Chino’s” right hand inverted-overhand-hooks to the left temple. Despite Adrien Broner’s fast and precise boxing skills were not enough to win no more than 4 rounds in one judges score card.

From the opening bell of the bout to the closing of the 12th round Maidana, at no point throughout the fight, displayed any form of respect of then champion Adrien Broner.

In round 1, Maidana unleashed, with no remorse, pressing a fury of power punches and combinations that backed Broner throughout the ring and into the ropes. Recognized not only as one of boxing’s biggest punchers, also consistently Maidana is amongst the most exciting fighters as he set the tone for the next 11 rounds entertaining the fans in attendance as the roars and cheers echoed the Alamodome.

And after 12 rounds of boxing, Maidana left the ring with the belt wrapping championship gold around his waist once again.


WBA Interim Welterweight Title

Keith Thurman of Clearwater, Florida defeats Jesus Soto Karass of Los Mochis, Mexico in the 9th round by way of TKO.

Thurman ended the fight by delivering 5 consecutive punches as the finishing blow was an upper-cut that rocked Karass back into the arms of the referee stopping the bout.

Keith Thurman improves to a professional record of 22-0.


WBC Super Bantamweight Title

Defending champion Leo “Terremoto” Santa Cruz of Los Angeles, CA retains his championship status in a unanimous decision (score cards 116-111, 115-112, 117-110) in an all in favor winner over Cesar Seda of San Juan, Puerto Rico.
