Yvon Michel: "I
Think Mayweather Jr. & Stevenson Will Compete For The WBC
Fighter Of The Year"

MONTRÉAL ----- Yvon Michel loves to recall the prediction
made by Emmanuel Steward before his death: “Adonis Stevenson
will become one of the biggest star of the international
boxing scene.”
“Emmanuel, one of the greatest trainer in the history of the
pro boxing, was so right when he predicted that Adonis would
become a superstar on the international boxing scene,” said
the promoter of the GYM Group. “The HBO directors believes
in Adonis more than ever.”
Stevenson (22-1-0), a southpaw from Montréal, won the two
most important fights of his career in the last weeks. June
8th at Bell Centre, Stevenson dethroned Chad Dawson (32-3-0)
as WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, in becoming
the first boxer to beat him in a short bout. Stevenson
stopped Dawson after only 76 seconds of action, on his first
power punch of the bout. Saturday, at the Bell Centre again,
Stevenson become the first boxer to beat Tavoris Cloud
(24-2-0) by TKO. Cloud, a fight on from Tallahassee,
Florida, promised before the fight that never in his career
he would lose a fight by KO or TKO. Cloud, who was bleeding
seriously from the two eyes, surrounded at the end of
the 7th round, losing automatically by TKO.
“Stevenson did two real achievements in less than three
months,” said Yvon Michel. “I really think that Floyd
Mayweather Jr. and him are the two best candidates for the
title of the WBC fighter of the year. If there is a fighter
on the international scene who did more than them this year,
I would like to know who? And Adonis should logically be
name the WBC fighter of the year if he his finishing the
2013 year with another successful defence of his crown,
against the British Tony Bellew (probably November 30th in
Québec City). Adonis is not only one of the best puncher
pound for pound in the world, he is now a very brilliant
boxer.”
Mayweather (45-0-0) won two WBC world championship bouts
this year, both by unanimous decision, both at the MGM Grand
in Las Vegas, the first one, in April, against the
Californian Robert Guerrero (31-2-1), the second one
September 8th, against the Mexican Saul Canelo Alvarez
(42-1-1).
