Pascal-Bute: Severe Penalties If Overweight

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - Jean Pascal and Lucian Bute will pay severe penalties if they don't respect the limit of the weight mentioned in their contracts. The two popular fighters from Montréal will fight together May 25th at Bell Centre in Montréal. The two promoters of the event, Yvon Michel, from de GYM Group, and Jean Bédard, from InterBox, are expecting a sell out.

Pascal (27-2-1), a former WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, and Bute (31-1-0), a former IBF super middleweight champion of the world, signed a contract indicating a limit of 175 pounds, the weight's limit for the light heavyweight division. If one the fighter posts a weight of 176 pounds at the weight in, he will have to give $300,000 to the opponent. If the overweight is two pounds, the penalty will be $500,000.

The fans of these two fighters can bet that both will work with a specialist in nutrition in the next two months, to be sure that the 175 pounds limit will be respected at the moment of the weigh in.
