Confirmed: Stevenson Will Face Cloud Sept. 28

MONTRÉAL - Its now confirmed: Adonis Stevenson, a southpaw
from Montréal, will defend his WBC light heavyweight
championship of the world for the first time September 28th
at Bell Centre in Montréal, in fighting the former IBF
champion, the American Tavoris Cloud. The two fighters will
meet the press Wednesday at the restaurant 9-4-10 of the
Bell Centre.
Stevenson (21-1-0) became WBC light heavyweight champion of
the world June 8th at Bell Centre, in beating the American
Chad Dawson (31-3-0) by TKO in the first round. On his side,
Cloud (24-1-0) lost his IBF crown to the veteran Bernard
Hopkins (53-6-2) March 9th in Brooklyn, New York, in losing
by unanimous decision.
The WBC has decided that the winner of this fight
Stevenson-Cloud, that HBO will televise, has to face the
mandatary challenger, the British Tony Bellew, before the
end of the year or the beginning of next year.Bellew
(20-1-1) became mandatory challenger May 25th in London,
when he won a decisive WBC elimination bout. He beat the
South African Isaac Chilemba (20-2-2) by unanimous decision,
less than an hour before the rematch Froch-Kessler.
