Stiverne-Arreola: Negotiations Or Purse Bid For Jan. 17

MONTRÉAL - The WBC championship committee is giving until
January 17th in the morning to the Bermane Stiverne and
Chris Arreola's promoters to negotiate and finalize a deal
about the vacant heavyweight championship of the world. If
the Montrealer Camille Estephan and the Californian Dan
Goossen cannot make an agreement by January 17th in the
morning, they will have to participate to a purse bid in the
afternoon at the WBC head office. If a purse bid is
necessary, the promoter who will win the bid will decide
when and where the bout will happens. The fight should
normally happen in March or April.
The winner of this rematch Stiverne-Arreola will become the
new WBC heavyweight champion of the world. The Ukrainian
Vitali Klitschko (45-2-0) gave up the crown last week after
11 successful defense of the title, to start a political
career. The fighter of 42 years old from Kiev has the
ambition to become the new President of Ukraine.
April 27th, Stiverne (23-1-0), a Montrealer of 35 years old,
won a WBC decisive elimination bout at the Citizens Banks
Arena in Ontario, California, in beating Arreola (36-3-0) by
unanimous decision. Arreola is a Californian of 32 years
old. Stiverne was waiting since seven months the opportunity
to fight Klitschko, but it's never happened.
Last month, Klitschko was thinking to face Stiverne before
start a political career, but he changed his mind last week
with all the intense protesting manifestations in Ukraine.
In these circumstances, the former WBC champion believes his
implication in politics is now urgent.
