Bermane Stiverne scored a unanimous decision victory against Chris Arreola in the main event of the Dan Goosen (Goossen Tutor) fight card at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, CA. The judge’s score read as follow: 118-109, 117-110, and 117-110.

The thrilling fight was part of tonight’s HBO split site telecast. The remainder of the HBO telecast featured Middleweight Champ Sergio Martinez who successfully defended his WBC Middleweight title against Martin Murray and Luis Carlos Abregu captured the vacant WBC Silver Welterweight belt by defeating Antonin Decaire. Both fights took place in Argentina.

Riverside’s Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola (35-3, 30KO) kicked off the action, controlling the first two rounds of the slugfest with shear aggression. He walked down his foe and landed some nice straight rights that were set up by his jab. His counterpart would change things in the following round.

Bermane Stiverne (23-1-1, 20KO) countered by letting loose with his left jab, which would win him the fight, in round three. The Haitian fighter worked well along the ropes, behind his jab, ultimately setting up a devastating right hook that floored Chris Arreola in front of his partisan crowd to end the round. The hook may have broken Arreola’s nose. Yet, he got up off the canvas and the fight continued with Steverne taking the following two rounds with solid work behind his jab and precise bodywork.

Chris Arreola turned things around in round six. The “Nightmare” landed several thudding blows in the aforementioned round. Stiverne came right back to take rounds seven and eight, again with his jab and body work. Arreola countered in round nine with his most fluid attack of the fight but he never was able to truly hurt Stiverne. He landed a straight right followed by a left hook, then by another straight right.

His momentum carried him into round ten where he continued to land his straight right. Stiverne took Arreola’s spirited effort in stride and closed the fight by continually beating Arreola to the punch.


Eric Molina Decisions Tony Grano

Eric Molina (20-2, 14KOs) scored a unanimous decision victory against gutty Tony Grano (20-2, 16KOs) in a 12 round Heavyweight scrap. At the final bell, all three judges scored the bout for Molina with scores of 116-110, 116-110, and 114-112.

The heavyweight scrap took a minute to heat up to the crowd’s displeasure. Both Eric Molina and Tony Grano where unwilling to let loose for the first three rounds of the fight, consequently arousing the crowd who made their discontent felt like only boxing fans can.

Texan Eric Molina grew more comfortable as the fight progressed. The latter was evident in round 5 where he landed some clean shots and managed to score the first knockdown of the bout with a pounding right hook as the round came to a close. Molina’s straight right began to land fluidly in rounds six and seven as Grano tired. The subsequent rounds were all dominated by Molina until a menacing looping overhand right caught him in round twelve. Molina survived the blow and took a beating for the remainder of the final assault on his way to the UD victory.


Oscar Molina Stops Jose Martell In Round One

Mexican Olympian Oscar Molina (5-0, 4KOs) made quick work of Jose Martell (2-7-1). The Norwalk native calmly walked forward as the opening bell rang. It would only take a few seconds before Molina began to unload, which culminated with a left hook that dropped Jose Martell.

Referee Raul Caiz Jr. proceeded to count the customary eight count before calling the bout only 55 seconds into the opening stanza.


Juan Funez TKOs Christian Cartier

Juan Funez (2-0, 1KO) is quickly becoming a fan favorite only two fights into his professional boxing career.

Funez held off a spirited effort from Christian Cartier (0-1) by catching him inside with a nasty uppercut.

The uppercut left Christian Cartier out on his feet. Referee Pat Russell stepped 1 minute 14 seconds into round number two.


Charles Huerta Light Work

Paramount’s Charles Huerta (18 -3, 11 KOs) knocked out Jonathan Alcantara (6-9-2) in round one of their scheduled six round fight in the Super Bantamweight division.

Huerta used his stick to quickly set up a nasty straight right, which floored Alcantara. Referee Raul Caiz Jr. halted the action soon after 1 minute 30 seconds into round one.


Vladimir Gavrilov Stops Jose Garcia

Russia’s Vladimir Gavrilov (2-1, 1KO) scored a technical knockout victory against Jose Garcia (1-6-1) to kick off the night’s action at the Citizens Business Bank Arena. The fight was stopped by Raul Caiz Jr. 2 minutes 20 seconds into round number three.
