Alvarez, Beterbiev & Pascal Ranked
Third, Fourth & Fifth By The WBC

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - Three Montrealers are ranked in the Top five of the new ratings of the WBC in the light heavyweight division.

Eleider Alvarez (17-0-0) is ranked third, Pascal (29-3-1) fourth and Beterbiev (9-0-0) fifth contender.

The WBC 175 pounds world champion is another Montrealer, the southpaw Adonis Stevenson (26-1-0).

Alvarez, a Colombian, will be in action August 15th at Bell Centre. He will fight just before the main event involving the Montrealer Romanian Lucian Bute (31-2-0).

The names of their next opponents will be known very soon.

Pascal will face the Cuban Yunieski Gonzalez (16-0-0) in a 10 rounds bout July 25th in the ring of the Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas, just before the presentation of the WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight championship of the world opposing the Russian Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1) and the French Nadjib Mohammedi (37-3-0).

At his previous fight, Kovalev kept his triple world titles at Bell Centre in Montréal, in beating Pascal by TKO in the eighth round.

Beterbiev, the amateur 2009 world champion, is the only boxer ranked so high with only nine pro bouts of experience.

Alvarez, Pascal and Beterbiev hope all to be involved in world championships fights in 2016.
