Berto Back On Track

Let's be honest, this night was made so welterweight Andre
Berto (30-3, 23 KO's) could find the form that shot him to
the tile but that was not the plan at all for Riversides
Josesito Lopez (33-7, 19 KO's). This tough underdog came out
to grab that interim WBA World welterweight title.
It was clear from the get go that Lopez was bound and
determined. Berto kept shaking his head no but the truth was
punches were landing hard and often. Berto was doing some
landing of his own but he just seemed uncomfortable at the
start.
The fighters turned up the heat in round four. Lopez
appeared to be hurt early in the round but there was no quit
in him. As Berto landed more shots in attempt to inflict
more damage Josesito gave him the look as if to say, "Is
that all you got?"
Berto answered that in the very next round as he dropped a
right hand on Lopez that sent him down with a thud. The
tough Lopez arose but in seconds the same punch put him down
again and the ref stopped it without a count. Official time
of the stoppage was at the 1:03 mark of the sixth.
Berto was jubilant. With the victory his career that was
hanging on a thread will live to see another day.
For Josesito, there will always be a place for a tough
contender. The loss hurts but it can be certain we will see
him back in the ring again.
