Bradley Defeats Vargas Despite
Bizarre Ending

Welterweight Jessie Vargas (26-1, 9 KO's) thought he pulled
off a miracle with a 12th round stoppage over Timothy
Bradley (32-1-1, 12 KO's). Vargas landed a haymaker in the
final seconds and staggered Bradley and was looking for the
kill, but that is when the ref stopped the action. Was it a
KO? Did the fight conclude? There was pandemonium in the
ring as it seemed Referee Pat Russell stopped the fight with
10 seconds left signaling a TKO by Vargas.
But that was not the case.
Russell thought he heard the bell at the ten second mark and
separated the fighters ending the fight. Simple as that.
Let's go to the scorecards. 116-112, 117-111 and 115-112 all
in favor of Bradley.
The fact of the matter is this. Vargas started out the fight
okay but it wasn't long before Bradley was doing most of the
scoring and began to put rounds together. The smirk that
Vargas displayed early in the fight was gone. He had no
answers for Bradley and it was clear to everyone The Desert
Storm was in complete control.
Then came that crazy 12th round that saw Bradley get
staggered with right hand forcing him to survive the final
10 seconds. Or so we thought. Even Bradley was at a loss for
words after the fight saying, "I got hit with a good shot
and backed up. I knew where I was the whole time. Then the
ref started waving his hands...honestly I did not know what
was going on."
No one in the house knew what was going on but when coolerr
heads prevailed it was Bradley who was correctly declared
the winner.
