"Chimpa" Gonzalez Q & A

Friday night at The Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles
undefeated Super Bantamweight Christian Gonzalez (11-0,10
KO's) will take on Alejandro Ochoa (7-10-2, 1 KO) as part of
the year ending Golden Boy Promotions card. Known as
“Chimpa” the heavy handed fighter will look to remain
undefeated as he fights in front of his hometown fans.
Pound4Pound was able to get in some questions with the young
Golden Boy prospect. Check out our interview”
Pound4Pound: This is your 4th fight in a row at Belasco. You
will be fighting Alejandro Ochoa on Friday night. What do
you know about him and what can the fans expect to see?
Christian Gonzalez: I know he is a tough fighter known for
going the distance in all his fights and is recently
enjoying a winning streak where he has defeated two top
rising undefeated prospects. I know that the fans can expect
and exciting fight from two fighters that have a lot of
heart. I want to end the year with my record intact and will
do what I need to do to make sure I am victorious on Dec. 4.
Styles make fights, and I believe my style and Ochoa’s style
complement each other. We are both forward type fighters
that are not afraid to take a punch. This will be an
exciting night for all the fans at The Belasco Theater and
those watching at home.
P4P: You have a very high Knockout ratio at over 90%. Tell
us about your power and do you go into every fight looking
for a KO?
CG: I train for every fight thinking I will go the distance,
and on fight night that is my mentality. I know I have to be
prepared to go all six, eight, or ten rounds if needed.
However, knockouts are exciting and the fans love them. If
the opportunity presents itself on fight night I take it.
P4P: You started out you career fighting your bouts in
Mexico, how was that experience and what did you learn from
it?
CG: I learned how to fight like a Mexican fighter. Mexican
style is something fans love, and having my family roots
also from Mexico it makes me proud to be part of that
warrior like mentality. I learned you have to be brave and
confront each fight, and I feel I have been doing that my
whole professional career.
P4P: You are a local talent here in Southern California. How
is it to be fighting in front of many of your hometown fans?
CG: It’s great to be able to hear my family and friends
cheer for me. I’m glad this series is based in Los Angeles,
it gives all the local Golden Boy Promotions fighter an
opportunity to grow their fan base and also perform for the
people who support us most. It motivates me more to gain a
victory on fight night.
P4P: Lastly, tell us about fighting for a company like
Golden Boy.
CG: Golden Boy Promotions is a great company. They know how
to build fighters and most importantly how to build
champions. We are all young up –and-comers and they promote
us as hard as they do their champions. It’s great to be part
of a company that cares about us as fighters and care about
our futures.
