Dierry Jean: "I'm 100% Sure I
Will Be Lightweight World Champion In 2016 Or 2017"

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer lightweight Dierry Jean has the
conviction that he will produce the best performances of his
career in the next two or three years.
The new Dierry Jean (27-1-0) will make a come back in the
ring Saturday in the ring of the Bell Centre. He will face
the Mexican Carlos Manuel Reyes (25-3-1) in a 10 rounds
bout.
“No doubt in my mind, I will give the best performances of
my career in the two or three years, said Jean Thursday
afternoon at the restaurant «La Cage aux Sports» of the Bell
Centre, at the final press conference of the undercard of
this HBO boxing show presented by InterBox and Main Event
Saturday evening. I am sure at 100% I will become
lightweight world champion in 2016 or 2017. Since my come
back in the gym, since the moment I became totally sober, I
am better than ever in training. I hit harder than ever, I
am faster than ever, I am more energetic and more confident
with my moves than ever. The sparring partners who are
working with me since many years in the gym, are amazed by
my progress made in every aspects of my style. They have the
feeling I am not the same man…”
Mike Moffa, the Jean’s trainer, is himself amazed by the
performances of his fighter in the gym.
“Dierry is right, said Moffa. His moves are fasters than
ever, he hit with more power than ever, and clearly, he
believes in himself more than he never showed it in his pro
boxing career. I really think the boxing fans will see in
action the best Dierry Jean ever in the next two or three
years. Just to tell you how much he is changed, he past the
Christmas and New Year’s time in the gym to work like hell.
He did not miss one day of training. In the last years,
never we saw him in the gym at the Christmas time and New
Year’s time. Now, he is determinate to give absolutely
everything to become lightweight world champion, and I am
positive he will achieve it in the next two years.”
Jean is so confident; he thinks he will destroy Reyes
Saturday evening. “Reyes is not very difficult to hit, and I
am sure I will hurt him each time I will connect him with my
power shots, said Jean. I will be more than surprise if
Reyes resists to my power shots more than four rounds. For
sure, I will attack in each round with the real intention to
stop him.”
The Jean’s manager and promoter, Camille Estephan, watched
his fighter in training many times in the last weeks. “Since
the end of his therapy (to cure an alcohol problem) last
November, Dierry Jean is totally transformed physically and
mentally. I am agree with him and Mike Moffa that the next
two years will be fantastic for him. Dierry never showed us
a so great determination, a so big desire to succeed. With
his natural talent, I know he has huge chances to become
world champion in the next two years. I am persuaded we will
see his name back in the international ratings in the next
months. As soon he will be in good position in the ratings,
I will certainly started serious negotiations with the
managers of the lightweights champions of the world. The
lightweight division is very competitive, but Dierry has
definitively all the weapons necessaries to go to the top.”
Just before the presentation of the main event, the WBA, WBO
and IBF light heavyweight championship of the world opposing
the Russian Sergey Kovalev (26-0-1) and the Montrealer Jean
Pascal (29-2-1), we will assist to an IBF heavyweight
elimination bout between the former IBF cruiserweight
champion of the world, Steve Cunningham (28-6-0), from
Philadelphia, and Vyacheslav Glazkov (19-0-1), from Ukraine.
“I have been world champion in the 190 pounds division, and
I really want now to become world champion in the
heavyweight division, said Cunningham at this press
conference. I got a great training camp, and I am now ready
for this mission. I am more than confident to win Saturday.
I have a match plan, and I am sure I will do the job. I know
I have the talent and the determination to win crucial bouts
like this one.”
Glazkov replied: “Me too I got a perfect preparation, and
it’s logical. Saturday, I will be involved in the most
significant bout of by pro boxing career, than, I got to
give absolutely everything I have in my heart to win it. A
lot of Europeans boxing writers told me that my chances are
50-50. Then, I guess the crowd will assist to a very intense
and close bout. I presume the one who will fight the most
intelligently, the one who be able to capitalize on the
opponent’s mistakes; will get out of the ring in the winning
shoes. I am positive I will be the one. I worked too hard to
fail in this mission.”
HBO will televise the bout Cunningham-Glazkov and the NABF
light heavyweight championship between the South African
Issac Chilemba (23-2-2) and the Russian Vasily Lepikhin
(17-0-0), just before the presentation of the main event.
