Dierry Jean: "I Will Test
Crawford’s Chin In Every Round"

MONTRÉAL - The Montrealer boxer Dierry Jean will try to win
for the second time a super lightweight championship of the
world October 24th at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha,
Nebraska. In January 2014 in Washington D.C., Jean (29-1-0)
failed to win the IBF 140 pounds championship of the world.
He lost by unanimous decision in 12 rounds against Lamont
Peterson (33-3-1), who was fighting in front of his fans.
Next Saturday, October 24th, Jean will challenge the WBO
super lightweight championship of the world, Terrence
Crawford (26-0-0), considered actually as the king of the
140 pounds division.
“Now, I know I am better technically, mentally, physically
and strategically then I was, when I fought Peterson, Jean.
I am totally transformed since a year. My preparation for
Peterson was OK, but actually, my preparation is absolutely
perfect. And it was a must to get a perfect preparation for
this fight. This bout with Crawford is definitively the most
significant one of my career. Several boxing writers believe
that Crawford is untouchable in the super lightweight
division.”
After his defeat with Peterson, Jean follow a therapy to
cure an alcohol problem. Since this therapy, Jean is really
transformed. He got a perfect record (4-0-0) in fighting in
the lightweight division (135 pounds). And in last four
presences in the ring, Jean was clearly more energetic than
he was in his first 26 pro bouts.
Saturday, Jean will fight in the super lightweight for the
first time his defeat with Peterson. “I am stronger
physically now, then, it’s perfect for me to fight in the
super lightweight division, said Jean. Crawford is a great
boxer, it’s true, but I really believe I can beat him. I
have a better chin than him. He won against the Cuban
Yoriokis Gamboa in 2014, but Gamboa hurt him seriously few
times. And at his following bout, he has been hurt also by
the Mexican Raymondo Beltran. And I know I can do the same
thing then Gamboa and Beltran. For sure, I will test the
Crawford’s chin in every rounds. We will see how he gonna
react. Crawford is an excellent technician, he his a good
puncher, but I am also a good puncher and I am faster and a
better mover in the ring than him. Crawford loves to
confer-attack, then, my mobility in the ring will be an
extremely important weapon in that bout. My intention is to
be the first attacker in each round, and move right and left
to neutralize his confer-attacks. I really believe I can
dominate almost of the rounds in fighting with discipline,
intelligence and intensity.”
If he has been hurt by Gamboa (24-1-0) and Beltran (29-7-1),
Crawford beat both, the first one by TKO and the second one
by unanimous decision. “Even when he was hurt, Crawford
found the way to win, said Jean. He is courageous and he has
always the stamina to fight 12 complete rounds, But it’s
exactly the same thing for me. I will try by best to reduce
his energies in hurting him the most times possible. I am
planning to connected him with power shots in every rounds.”
Jean is not intimidated at all the fight in the Crawford’s
backyard in Omaha. “When you fight in front of your fans,
you always hope you will be ahead on points in close rounds,
but believe me, I don’t feel it’s a problem for me to fight
in Omaha, in front of the Crawford’s fans, said Jean. When
the fight will start, it will be between Crawford and me. I
will be perfectly concentrated on him, no matter how his
fans will react.”
Jean, who strongly believes he is at his peak now, said that
this win will be the most important one of his pro boxing
career. “Crawford has the reputation to be the super
lightweight number one on the planet, then, a win over him
next Saturday will give me an international celebrity in
boxing, said the Montrealer of 33 years old. I am really
impatient to live this great moment in my career. I know
that all my fans in Canada will be behind me, and I can
promise them I won’t disappoint them. I know I have now the
maturity to take a challenge of this amplitude. Since the
moment I took my career very seriously (after his therapy),
I feel so stronger mentally and physically. I am ready now
to face all the big names of the lightweight (135 pounds)
and super lightweight division. And to prove my confidence,
I am challenging in Omaha the fighter considered as the
master of the division. I will be the next one…”
