David Lemieux Won’t Sign New
Contract With The Gym Group

MONTRÉAL - Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group, his
the man who persuaded the promoter Yvon Michel to sign the
prospect David Lemieux in 2007. The GYM Group was seeing a
great future for Lemieux.
Friday afternoon, Lemieux, who is now ranked second
contender by the WBC in the middleweight division, and third
by the WBO, confirmed that he won’t sign a new contract with
the GYM Group, a contract expired few days ago.
“David and us have decided to not sign a new contract with
the GYM Group, said the Lemieux’s manager, Camille Estephan,
Friday. We are not excluded that David could fight
eventually on a boxing show organized by the GYM Group, but
we want to keep all his options open on the international
scene. I cannot tell you more at this point. We let you know
as soon as possible the new orientation of the David’s
career.”
Lemieux is the second important fighter to divorce with the
GYM Group in the last months. Jean Pascal (29-2-1), who will
face the Russian Sergey Kovalev (25-0-1) in a WBA, WBO and
IBF light heavyweight championship of the world March 14th
at Bell Centre, divorced from the GYM Group last summer, to
join the InterBox Group.
Lemieux is an explosive puncher who improved substantially
his technique and strategy since he is working with the
trainer Marc Ramsay.
Yvon Michel said that we have been unable to reach Friday,
was considering Lemieux as one the most important boxer of
his organization since last year.
December 6th at the Brooklyn Barclays Centre, Lemieux
(33-2-0) won one of his most important bout in pro boxing.
At his first presence in a main event televised by HBO, he
beat Gabriel Rosado (21-9-0), a tough fighter from
Philadelphia, by TKO in the 10th round.
May 25th at Bell Centre, Lemieux opened the eyes of the HBO
authorities, in beating the Dominican Fernando Guerrero
(26-3-0) by KO in less than three rounds. Lemieux, a
Montrealer, is the actual NABF North American champion in
the 160 pounds division.
