Porter Stops Bone In Five

Up first on the Premier Boxing Champions Spike TV venture
was welterweight Shawn Porter (25-1-1,16 KO's) who took on
last minute substitute Erick Bone (16-2, 8 KO's) in a
scheduled 12 round "second Main event". Although the little
known Bone had minimal time to get ready for the challenge
he didn't looked fazed in the first round and actually held
his own with Porter who looked to be pressing a bit.
Porter came out in round two bouncing on his toes looking to
make a statement. After a few flurries he had bloodied
Bone's nose but the tough Ecuadorian landed a few of his own
as the round closed.
There is no question that Porter is in a different class but
Bone was not going to go down without a fight. In fact, Bone
was slowly dragging Porter into his kind of fight and by
round four Porter was getting tagged more and in frustration
threw his man to the canvas, which drew angry boos from the
crowd.
Round five was a shootout as both fighters let the leather
fly but it was the sharper and more accurate punches of
Porter that took their toll. With blood streaming from his
nose Bone took a knee to collect himself after tasting a
mouthful of leather. But when he arose Porter let go with a
series of punches along the ropes that sent Bone down in a
heap. He would not beat the ten count. It was the 2:30 mark
of round five that the bout came to an end.
