Marc Ramsay: "Prieto Is The
Best
Opponent Eleider Alvarez Has Faced"

MONTRÉAL - The former WBC light heavyweight champion of the
world, Jean Pascal, is not the only Montrealer light
heavyweight to hope to get a shot for a world championship
bout as soon as possible. Eleider Alvarez, a Montrealer
Colombian ranked third contender by the WBC, has the same
ambition.
August 15th at Bell Centre in Montréal, Alvarez (17-0-0)
will face the Argentinian Nonito “El Guerrero” Prieto
(24-0-3) in a 10 rounds bout presented just before the main
event opposing the Montrealer super middleweight Lucian Bute
(31-2-0) and the Italian Andrea DiLuisa (17-2-0). These two
fights will be televised by NBC for the series Premier
Boxing Champions.
“Prieto is certainly the best opponent Eleider got in pro
boxing so far, said the Alvarez’s trainer, Marc Ramsay. He
is a hard puncher who gives problems to everybody. However,
I seriously think Eleider is better than ever now, and he is
very close to a participation to world championship bout. I
know how much it’s his ambition.”
At his last bout, June 12th in Chicago, Alvarez won by TKO
in less than two rounds against the Ukrenian Anatoly
Dudchenko (19-4-0). He was clearly on fire that night.
“Now that his left elbow is perfect, you will see in action
a Eleider Alvarez better offensively and more intense than
ever, said Ramsay. His jab a crucial weapon, and he was
unable to use before the fight with Dudchenko. He got to
much pain in the elbow.”
Alvarez had a surgery to extract bone fragments in his left
elbow last December. “I feel better than ever now, said
Alvarez. I know I have now the weapons to go to the top. I
can use my two fists normally now. However, actually, I got
to stay perfectly concentrate on Prieto. He is certainly a
dangerous opponent. He is a very solid puncher. But I am not
intimidate at all, I am use to face aggressive fighters able
to hit with authority. It’s just that with a left elbow in
perfect health now, I became back a warrior in the ring. I
show it clearly at my last fight in Chicago.”
However, Alvarez will probably need to be patient before get
a shot for a WBC world title bout in the 175 pounds
division. The world champion is his teammate with the GYM
Group, the Montrealer Haitian Adonis Stevenson (26-1-0).
