Interview

As scheduled, @ 2:15 pm (PST) I receive the teleconference
phone call. Thanks in part to Golden Boy Promotions & PR
Manager Cecilia Zuniga; to conduct a brief interview with 18
year boxing veteran and former 3 division world champion
from Los Mochis, Sinaloa, Mexico Humberto Soto. We discussed
variables he feels; despite his lengthy boxing career
continue to make him a dangerous contender. As he prepares
for his upcoming bout versus young & undefeated opponent
from East LA Frankie “The Pitbull” Gomez on May 9, 2015 from
Minute Maid Park in Houston Texas. They are boxing skills
that assist him maintain a competitive edged against his
opponents.
Brief excerpts of the interview conducted in Spanish:
(Note: responses translated to English)
Writer’s opening question:
“Como estas y como te sientes?” (How are you & how do you
feel).
Soto replies:
“Estoy bien y el entrenamienta de hoy fue bien, el esparin -
todo va bien!”
(Im fine, today’s training well, sparring, everything is
going well).
Writer next question:
“Tienes 34 anos de edad crees que has perdido unas
abilidades sea fisica, velocidad, poder o condicion?”
(You are 34 years of age, do you believe you have declined
in skills such as physical type, speed, power or
conditioning type).
Soto replies: “No lo he sentido – no siento difrencia a esta
edad porque sigo trabajando igual - mi ultima pelea reflejo
buena condicion y la jente que vio me vio bien y gane!”
(I have not felt that – I don’t feel a difference at this
age because I continue to work the same and my prior bout
reflected good conditioning and the people saw me in good
condition and I won!”
Writer’s question:
“Confirmarias que esta pelea contra Frankie Gomez es un
riesgo para el?”
(Do you confirm this bout against Frankie Gomez is a risk
for him?)
Soto replies:
“La verdad, NO, solo veo que esta pelea es juventud contra
experiencia!”
(The truth, No, I only view this fight to be youth versus
experience).
Writer’s question:
“Despues de tu ultima perdida contra Lucas Matthysse
escritores y analistas del boxea creen que has regrasado mas
agresivo?”
(After your lost to Lucas Matthysse boxing writers and
analysts believe you have made an aggressive return).
Soto replies:
“Esa pelea fue golpe duros, unfortunadamento resulto
diferente y pelie duro, y de agresivo se a metido contra
buenos peleadores, agresivo yo tambien el noquio a John
Molina y yo le gane tambien. Pelea dura y muchos golpes
duros.”
(That fight was hard punching, unfortunately the result was
different but I fought hard, and being aggressive he’s
(Lucas M.) fought great fighters, aggressive I am too he
KO’d John Molina and I beat John Molina too. Hard fought
bout and lots of hard punches.)
Writer’s question:
“Tu piensas que Frankie Gomez tiene una ventaja sobre esta
pelea siendo que su entrenador es Freddie Roach?”
(Given his trainer is Freddie Roach do you think F.G. has an
advantage in this match).
Soto replies:
“Arriba del ring estara Frankie y yo-Soto, mucho respeto a
Freddie y Frankie y su campamento se han metido en peleas
grandes y con buen peliadores, trabajan duro en
entrenamiento - igual que yo!”
(In the ring will be Frankie & I-Soto, much respect to
Freddie & Frankie & their camp as they have been in big
fights & with good fighters, they train hard – I do the same
train hard!
Writer requests final statement:
“Un ultimo comentario Humberto?”
(Any final statement).
Soto states:
“Gracias a usted por tomar el tiempo en ablar con migo y su
soporte, me siento muy bien, peleare duro, estoy enfocado en
my carera de boxeo, gracias a mis soportes y peliare para
darles satisfaction a la jente que me a soportada en my
carera!”
(Thank you for the time in speaking with me and your
support, I feel very good, I will fight hard, I’m focused in
my boxing career, I thank all my supporters & will fight to
satisfy the people who have supported my career – thank
you).
