Yvon Michel: "No Doubt
Stevenson Is The Most Powerful Puncher Pound For Pound In
The World"

MONTRÉAL - The WBC light heavyweight champion of the world,
the Montrealer southpaw Adonis Stevenson, will have his next
bout in Haiti, his native country, probably September 27th.
He has good chances to face the South African Thomas
Ozthuizen (24-0-2), the sixth contender of the WBC.
Stevenson (26-1-0) will proceed to the sixth defense of the
WBC crown.
April 4th at the Québec City Colisée, Stevenson beat Sakio
Bika (32-7-3), a fighter from Cameroun living in Australia,
by unanimous decision in 12 rounds. Stevenson won his four
previous bouts by KO or TKO.
“No doubt, Adonis Stevenson is actually the most dangerous
and powerful puncher pound for pound in the world, said
Wednesday afternoon his promoter, Yvon Michel, the boss the
GYM Group in Montréal. He hits terribly hard with his two
fists, but his left hook or left right are the most powerful
shots in the world. Adonis is 37 years old, but his doctor
told me he has the body of a boxer of 28 or 29 years old. I
won’t be surprised if he still WBC world champion for
another four or five years.”
A few days ago, the WBA, WBO and IBF light heavyweight
champion of the world, the Russian Sergey Kovalev (27-0-1),
said Stevenson was a Mickey Mouse champion of the world.
“We don’t want to start a war of words with a fighter who
refused to take part the WBC purse bid for the unification
light heavyweight titles bout with Adonis, said Yvon Michel.
Adonis and us were ready to take part of the purse bid. In
refusing to participate to this purse bid two months ago In
Mexico City, Kovalev and Main Event showed they are not too
in hurry to face Adonis. Than, Kovalev can insult Adonis
like he wants, we don’t care.”
July 25th at the Mandalay Bay Arena in Las Vegas, Kovalev
will defend is triple world titles against the French Nadjib
Mohammadi (37-3-0).
At his last bout, March 3rd at Bell Centre in Montréal,
Kovalev beat the Montrealer Jean Pascal (29-3-1), a former
WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, by TKO in the
eight round.
