MONTRÉAL - WBC number 1 ranked light
heavyweight, Montrealer Colombian Eleider
Alvarez has to eliminate the last obstacle on his road to
get the chance to face the Montrealer Romanian Lucian Bute
(32-3-1) in a WBC elimination bout February 24th at the
Videotron Centre in Québec City.
This last obstacle on the Alvarez’s road has a name: the
Polish Norbert Dabrowski. Alvarez (20-0-0) will face
Dabrowski (19-5-1) in the main event (10 rounds) of the
boxing show organized by the GYM Group Saturday afternoon at
the Montréal Casino. If Alvarez failed to win this tune-up
bout, his prestigious match up with Bute will failed also.
“It’s crucial for me to get a solid performance Saturday
afternoon, said Alvarez. I am in position to dispute the
most significant fight on my boxing career, scheduled for
February 24th, then, I cannot afford a lost Saturday.
Tomorrow, I will fight with a perfect concentration and a
great determination to be sure that Dabrowski won’t waste my
future in boxing. My ambition is that the 2017 year will be
the greatest moments of my pro boxing career.”
At the weigh in, supervised by the Québec Athletic
Commission (Régie provinciale des sports de combat) Alvarez
posted an official weight of 179.6 pounds, versus 179 for
Dabrowski. Dabrowski seems more than confident to cause a
big surprise Saturday.
“I saw Alvarez in action on videos, and to be honest, he did
not impressed me, said the Polish. I am positive I will
cause a huge surprise here in Montréal. I have the
conviction I have all the weapons necessaries to beat
Alvarez. It’s very important for me, because Alvarez is
ranked first contender by the WBC.”
Marc Ramsay, Alvarez’s trainer, is expecting a great
performance from his fighter. “Actually, Eleider is clearly
more motivated than ever, said Ramsay. I am expecting from
him a great performance Saturday afternoon. Dabrowski is a
good technician and a solid puncher, but I am persuaded that
Eleider is superior to his opponent offensively, defensively
and strategically. Eleider knows he got to stay undefeated
to have this chance to dispute the most important fight of
his pro boxing career in February in Québec City. No doubt
in my mind, in few hours, you will see in action an Eleider
extremely energetic and efficient from the beginning to the
end of the bout.”

Alvarez-Dabrowski.
