Kell Brook: "I Need To Destroy Bizier
To Get My Chance At Unification"

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The British Kell Brook, the IBF welterweight champion of the world, is determinate to demolish the Canadian Kevin Bizier. Saturday evening in the ring of the Sheffield Arena in England, Brook (35-0-0) will defend his title against Bizier (25-2-0), a fighter from Québec City who is the mandatory challenger for this world title.

Last November, Bizier became the mandatory challenger in winning an IBF elimination bout at the Miccosukee Indiand Resort, in beating the African Frederik Lawson (24-1-0) by TKO in the 10th round.

“I need to fight Bizier, because he is my mandatory contender, but I have the ambition to fight bigger names than his, said Brook. I know Bizier is deserving to fight for the IBF 147 pounds world title, because he won a decisive elimination bout last November in Miami, and he won it clearly. I need to destroy him to get my chance to face the biggest names of the welterweight division. And I will do it. I will take care of Bizier, and try to get an unification world titles bout. I have now the maturity to fight the most prestigious welterweights on the planet. And I am ready to fight in USA to unify the welterweight world titles. No doubt in my mind, if I get the chance to fight in an unification world titles bout, my credibility on the international boxing scene will be higher than ever.”

The three others world champions in the welterweight division are three Americans. Danny Garcia (32-0-0), the WBC champion, lives in Philadelphia, Keith Thurman (27-0-0), the WBA champion, is from Clearwater, Florida, and Timothy Bradley (33-1-1), the WBO champion, lives in Palm Springs, California. Brook became IBF welterweight champion of the world in August 2014 in Carson, California, in beating the American Shawn Porter by majority decision of the judges. Brook was the first fighter to beat Porter, who showed up in the ring with a record of 33-0-0.

Brook knows that Bizier has the intention to be very aggressive Saturday evening. “I am sure Bizier will try to attack me like he attacked Frederick Lawson last November in Miami, said Brook. But trust me, I will impose my style in the ring and control the action. It’s not Bizier who is the IBF world champion, it’s me. I never let the opponent impose his style in the ring. I know exactly what I got to do to get out of the ring in the winning shoes. In front on my fans, I love to give a good show, and prove that I am deserving the get the statute of world champion.”

When he made the first defence of his world title, in March 2015, again in Sheffield, Brook beat the Montrealer Romanian Jo Jo Dan (35-3-0) by TKO in the fourth round. Dan, a southpaw, inflicted to Bizier his two defeats in pro boxing, each time by split decision of the judges.

“Bizier said his style is more appropriate to fight me than the Jo Jo Dan’s style, said Brook to a British journalist. Maybe he is right, we will see in few hours. For sure, I know perfectly how to adjust my style to the opponent’ style. You will see it in few hours…”

Dominic Ingle, the Brook’s trainer, believes his fighter is an example of determination and courage. “Kell is a very hungry fighter, said Ingle. He is so determinate. He is not only very talented, he is working like hell to stay world champion. And I am sure he will stay world champion for the years to come. He is really an example of courage and determination. It’s certainly not a coincidence he is so respected and popular in Great Britain.”
