Brook Stops Bizier In The
Second Round

MONTRÉAL — According a British boxing writer, Kell Brook
promised to his fans an Easter gift two days ago “My gift? I
will get out of the ring with my IBF belt in my hands.”
Brook kept his promise. He proceeds to a third successful
defense of his IBF welterweight championship of the world
Saturday evening in the ring of the Sheffield Arena in Great
Britain, in beating his mandatory challenger, the Canadian
Kevin Bizier, by TKO in the second round.
Brook, a Brit, still undefeated in 36 pro bouts (36-0-0).
For Bizier, a fighter from Québec City, it was a third
defeat (25-3-0). “Yes, I promised to my fans an Easter's
gift, and I kept my promise, said Brook when he got out of
the ring. I was obliged to fight Bizier, because he was my
mandatory challenger, but I knew he did not have any logical
chance to beat me. Bizier is a very aggressive fighter, but
he is not a complete boxer like I am. I knew i was better
than him technically and strategically. i knew I was faster
than him, I was a better mover than him in the ring, and I
am a stronger puncher than him. I was determinate to destroy
him, and I did it. I dominate the action from the beginning
to the end of the bout. Now, i want to prove I am the best
fighter of 147 pounds on the planet. My promoter Ed Hearn
will work to involve in unification world titles bouts this
year and next year, and its exactly what I am hoping. I want
to become the unify welterweight champion of the world as
soon as possible.”
Brook dominated clearly the first round with his speed and
intensity. Brook place over 80 shots in this opening round.
Bizier tried to attack, but Brook was moving brilliantly.
Brook attacked furiously in the first minute of the second
round, and Bizier got a cut under the right eye. In the
second minute of this second round, Brook provoked two
knockdowns, and the referee intervened to stop the bout.
Bizier lived the first knockdowns of his pro boxing career,
and his first defeat by TKO.
“Kevin is down now, and its logical in the circumstances,
said Bernard Barré, the scout of the GYM Group, the man who
recruited Bizier for the organization in 2008. You got to
understand that for Kevin, it’s a first defeat by TKO in pro
boxing. Kevin wanted very much to attack Brook with
intensity at the beginning of the bout, but you saw it,
Brook was too fast and he was moving perfectly in the ring.
In the second round, Brook attacked furiously and Kevin was
seriously in trouble. No doubt that Brook is a great
champion of the world. He is probably the best welterweight
in the world actually.”
In the other bout of this boxing show televised in Canada
and Great Britain, the British super featherweight Luke
Campbell (13–1-0) won a Commonwealth championship fight, in
beating his countryman Gary Sykes (28-6-0) by TKO in the
second round. Campbell provoked a knockdown in this second
round, and it was the beginning of the end for Sykes.
Campbell attacked furiously after this knockdown, forcing
the referee to stop the bout. A southpaw, Campbell is a gold
medalist of the London 2012 Olympics.
