  Cloutier's Canada Report
Bute Tests Positive For Ostarine

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL — The WBC championship committee confirmed in Mexico that the Montrealer boxer Lucian Bute, a former IBF super middleweight champion of the world, has tested positive for a drug called Ostarine. Bute failed this drug test after his majority draw against the WBC super middleweight champion of the world, the Swedish Badou Jack (20-1-2) on April 30th at the D.C. Armory in Washington. Ostarine is a drug listed illegal by the WBC. The WBC should confirmed soon the penalty imposed to Bute. We will know at that time if Bute (32-3-1) will be suspended or get a fine.

"I don’t understand that I failed a drug test imposed by the WBC, said Bute, When I fought the Brit James De Gale last year in Québec City, I past eight tests imposed by the IBF championship committee, and no tests were positive. I don’t take drugs. I hope the WBC championship committee will confirm soon that this test I failed was a mistake from their laboratory."

Yvon Michel, the new Bute’s promoter, the big boss of the GYM Group in Montréal, said: "We are more than surprise by this WBC’s news. Lucian won 10 IBF world championship bouts from 2007 to 2012, and never he tested positive for a drug test. Never. He knows that InterBox and us could not tolerate that a fighter associated to one of our organization, would use drugs to help his performances."
