  Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Dawson Will Be Unable To Fight Alvarez

By Daniel Cloutier

MONTRÉAL - The promoter of the GYM Group, Yvon Michel, confirmed that the fight (10 rounds) which was supposed to oppose the Montrealer Colombian Eleider Alvarez and the former WBC light heavyweight champion of the world, Chad Dawson, July 29th at the Videotron Centre in Québec City, has been cancelled.

Tuesday morning in New Haven, Connecticut, Dawson (34-4-0) got in injury to the left shoulder in training.

“We are working to find another opponent for Eleider, said Yvon Michel. The Dawson’s manager phoned me Tuesday morning to mention that his fighter will be unable to go in Québec City next week. Dawson injured his left shoulder in a training session. We hope to be able to confirm a new opponent for Alvarez in the next hours.”

The fight Alvarez-Dawson was supposed to be presented just before the WBC light heavyweight championship of the world opposing the Montrealer Adonis Stevenson (27-1-0) and the mandatory challenger, Thomas Williams Jr. (20-1-0), from Fort Washington, Maryland.

Alvarez (19-0-0) is the WBC first contender in the light heavyweight division.
