Tonight in Los Angeles Oscar “Jaguar” Negrete (14-0, 5 KOs) of Los Angeles, CA will headline LA FIGHT CLUB at the Belasco Theater. He will go up against Mexican fighter Jose “Flash” Bustos (11-6-3, 7 KOs) in a 10-round bantamweight bout. This main event should prove to be an all out action fight. With a good performance Negrete could be moving on to bigger and better things before this year is over. Pound4Pound spoke to his manager Cesar Garcia about Negrete and what he expects to see from his fighter. Garcia, a former fighter himself from the Los Angeles area knows the business well and is handling his prospect accordingly. The self described manager, friend and counselor to the fighter feels Negerete, whom he has had under his wing for some 3 years now has the talent to go far inside the ring. Garcia, the ex-fighter Garcia admits he is more nervous being a manger than back when he was actually stepping in the ring himself. “You can control what happens in the ring when you are fighting, but when you are on the other side of the ropes there is only so much you can do, the rest is up to the fighter."

Garcia shared, “I took a chance on Oscar when he was pointed out to me by a guy who I used to work with when I fought. He is a scout in Central America. He is the one who told me to check this kid out. The guy has an eye for talent. I saw a video of Oscar fighting Oscar Valdes, and he is the real deal. It was a close fight, my guy lost but I knew I wanted to take a chance on this kid…he impressed me that much.”

It didn’t take long for Garcia to feel he made the right decision. In fact it took no longer that his fiorst trip to the gyms in Los Angeles. Garcia stated, “The first time I saw him sparring here in Los Angeles I knew he would have what it takes. People in the know, long time trainers of champions were very impressed with his style in the ring. His first days here he was sparring with “Cobrita” and it was a war. It was clear to me Oscar was going to do very well.”

As far as being the headliner on The Golden Boy card Garcia knows this is a great chance to make a mark, “This is the type of fight that if everything goes well we hope he can take it to the next level like other successful Belasco fighters. He is the main event, this is a big opportunity for Oscar and of course our goal is to win and then get exposure on the bigger Golden Boy cards. To get to the next level you can’t just win, you have to look good. It’s all about how he looks Friday night. Personally I think he is ready and I will be willing to take our chances with anyone.”

Doing a quick calendar check I proposed a scenario to Garcia by asking if Negrete comes out victorious, looks good and doesn’t get cut we would love to see him be a part of that huge Golden Boy September weekend in Las Vegas. Garcia jumped on the idea, “Whether it’s on Canelo’s card or the Friday night before in Las Vegas, I’d love to have him out there fighting that weekend. Everyone will be in town that and it will be the perfect place to have an impressive performance. It’s hard to look that far ahead, but yeah, to be a part of that big weekend would be great. But for now I just want to be impressive at Belasco on Friday night.”

Having seen Negrete numerous times we can expect him to impress. His style would not dictate anything less. Los Angeles boxing fans would do themselves a big favor by coming out and supporting this rising star.
