Maderna: "The Beterbiev Fans
Will Be Frustrated & Disappointed"
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL - The Argentinean light heavyweight Ezequiel
Maderna got a big smile when a Montrealer boxing writer told
him that it will be a mission impossible for him to beat the
Montrealer Russian Artur Beterbiev Saturday evening in the
ring of the Bell Centre in Montréal.
The only light heavyweight ranked in the Top 10 of the WBC,
WBA, WBO and IBF ratings with less than 10 pro bouts of
experience, Beterbiev (9-0-0) will defend his NABA North
American championship and his WBO international championship
(12 rounds) against the Argentinean champion.
“A mission impossible for me? Are you serious? Beterbiev won
all his nine pro bouts by KO or TKO, but trust me, this
successful sequence will ended Saturday evening, promised
Maderna Wednesday morning at the final press conference of
the event held by GYM Group at the Montréal Casino. I came
in Montréal to win this bout and I gonna win it. I know I
have the skills and the experience to beat Beterbiev. And I
am really determinate to take his place in the international
ratings. I got a perfect preparation for this bout, and you
will understand what I mean when the fight will start.
Believe me, the Beterbiev’s fans will be frustrated and
disappointed when they gonna leave the Bell Centre Saturday
evening.”
A boxing writer told him that Beterbiev is not only good
technically, he is a destructive puncher. “I never lost a
fight by KO or TKO, then, Beterbiev is dreaming if he
believes he can knock me out, said Maderna. I know I have
all the weapons necessaries to win this bout.”
Maderna is right. He never lost by KO. He lost by unanimous
decision against the American Edwin Rodriguez (22-0-0) and
by majority decision against the South African Thomas
Oosthuizen (21-0-2).
“Madera is certainly a dangerous opponent, said the promoter
of the GYM Group, Yvon Michel. He gave a great opposition to
Rodriguez and Oosthuizen, two fighters extremely respected
on the international scene. Artur Beterbiev has everything
to become world champion, but I am really impatient to see
what he gonna do Saturday evening after one year of
inaction. As you know, Artur got a surgery to the right
shoulder after his win over Alexander Johnson last June in
Chicago.”
Beterbiev said: “I feel in perfect health now, and I will
certainly get a solid performance Saturday evening. I am
taking Maderna seriously. I know he came in Montréal with a
serious intention to surprise me. But I will prove him I am
the master in the ring.”
Just before the fight Beterbiev-Maderna, the middleweights
Bryant Perrella, from Fort Myers, Florida, and David Grayton,
from Washington, D.C. will fight in a 10 rounds bout. Both
are undefeated. It’s 13-0-0 for Perrella, 14-0-0 for Grayton.
“I am positive I will leave Montréal undefeated, said
Perrella. No doubt I have the skills and the power to
inflict to Grayton his first defeat. I like my chances to
win by KO or TKO. I really believe I will get my chance to
fight in a North American championship in 2017. A North
American title would help me to improve my ratings on the
international scene.”
Grayton also thinks he will leave Montréal undefeated. “I
have the technique and the power to dominate Perrella and
beat him by KO or TKO, said Grayton. My team prepared a
perfect strategy for this bout, and watch me when the first
bell will ring. I saw Perrella in action on videos, and he
did not impressed me at all. I am a super star, not him. He
is just an average fighter.”
The Montrealer heavyweight Oscar Rivas (18-0-0) will face
the veteran Jeremy Bates (26-17-1), from Charleston, West
Virginia, just before the match up Perrella-Grayton.
“It’s crucial for me to stay undefeated, because I want to
get a shot for a world title in 2017, said Rivas. No doubt I
have the talent and the power to become a world champion.
Bates has a lot of experience, but I know exactly what to do
to beat him, and I will do it.”
The fight Beterbiev-Maderna is scheduled for midnight,
Eastern time.
