Alexis Rocha Debut At Belasco
Tonight

Tonight at the Belasco Theatre in Los Angeles Alexis Rocha
will make his pro debut in front of a house full of hometown
fans. It’s a dream come true for a fighter who at 11 years
old went to the gym mostly to lose some weight, at the time
he was 200 pounds. Rocha shared, “I used to weigh 205 to be
exact. I was a big kid. Growing up I really wasn’t into
sports, I liked video games and cartoons. Not burning too
many calories back then.”
But with fighting brothers it was inevitable he would end up
at the gym. “It was when I turned 12 that I started going to
the gym. The inspiration for me going to the gym was my
brother Ronny Rios,” said Rocha.
Along the way to dropping some pounds Alexis discovered he,
like his brothers, possessed some pretty good skills in the
ring. Rocha reminisced, “It was when I came to the gym to
lose weight that my coach Hector saw the progress I was
making and the hard work I was putting in. He put me in to
spar and I guess I did pretty good because right after that
he got me my first amateur fight. Once I did that and won I
found out I loved the sport and decided to keep doing this.”
Not only did he keep doing it, but he did it well. Rocha was
winning amateur titles left and right and was seemingly on
his way to the 2016 Olympics before some rule changes sent
Rocha in a different direction. The highly touted young
fighter was being courted by a number of promoters but only
one could have him. That decision was easy exclaimed Rocha,
“Other promoters were always approaching us but it was only
right to go with Golden Boy because they always treated us
like family, my brother has been with them since 2009. They
always treated my brothers Ronny and Hector very good and
they have all been very positive with me. With Golden Boy at
my side I know I can become a world champion.”
Asked to describe his style Rocha shared, “I like using my
jab and breaking my opponents down with body shots and then
when I can I mix in the hooks up to the head and go for the
KO. I am a boxer/puncher and I believe my style is very
entertaining.”
Let the entertainment begin, Rocha is set to make his debut
tonight and although he admittedly has butterflies, he is
ready. Rocha spoke about the days leading up to the fight
saying. “It’s my first pro fight and I am a little nervous.
But I visualize it every night. I am thinking about walking
out and having tunnel vision into the ring and once I get in
the ring I see no one but my opponent. We sold about 150
tickets right now and we are going to get a lot of walk up
fans that night. All my family and friends will be there to
support me; I have trained very hard for this, so you know I
am going to go out there with a bang.”
Fans should not only expect a bang from Alexis tonight but
if the combination of great bloodlines and a stellar amateur
career prove to be a positive we can expect a lot more pop
coming for Rocha’s fists in the coming years.
