Cloutier’s Canada Corner
Rojas vs. Washington In Anaheim
By Daniel Cloutier
MONTRÉAL —The Montrealer Colombian heavyweight Oscar Rivas
will dispute his next bout February 27th at the Honda Centre
in Anaheim, California. Rivas (18-0-0) will face the
Californian Gerald Washington (16-0-1) in a 10 rounds bout.
If Rivas stay undefeated in Anaheim, he will probably be
involved in a North American championship this year. “I know
Washington is very strong physically, I know he is a
dangerous opponent, but I will be perfectly prepared
technically and physically to face this challenge, said
Rivas. I need to stay undefeated to be involved in North
American championship and eventually a world championship
bout. I am positive I have the potential necessary to become
world champion. At this point, I just got more experience. I
really believe that this year and next year will become
extremely important moments in my boxing career.”
At his last bout, November 15th at the Videotron Centre in
Québec City, just before the fight Bute-DeGale, Rojas won by
KO in less than two rounds against Joey Abell (31-9-0), a
boxer from Minnesota.
Washington is former football player, member of the USC
University team. At his last bout, in October at the Little
Creek Resort Casino in Washington State, Gerald Washington
got a draw against Amir Mansour (22-2-2), a fighter from New
Jersey.
The main event of this boxing show at the Honda Centre,
February 27th, will be a WBA featherweight world
championship opposing the Californian Leo Santa Cruz
(31-0-1) to the Spanish Kiko Martinez (35-6-0).
This boxing show will be televised by Showtime.
