MONTRÉAL — The promoter of the GYM Group in Montréal, Yvon Michel, will confirmed Monday that the WBC light heavyweight championship of the world opposing the Montrealer southpaw Adonis Stevenson and the American Thomas Williams Jr. will be presented July 16th at the Videotron Centre in Québec City. This 12 rounds bout will be televised by Showtime.

For Stevenson (27-1-0), it will be the seventh defence of this title he won in 2013 at Bell Centre in Montréal, in beating the American Chad Dawson by KO in the first round.

Williams (20-1-0), a fighter from Fort Washington, Maryland, won a WBC elimination bout April 30th in Carson, California, with a win by TKO in the second round against the Dominican Edwin Rodriguez (28-2-0). A few hours after this win over Rodriguez, the WBC championship committee confirmed that Williams would be the next Stevenson’s opponent.
